Pokémon Uranium

9 years in development and it's out for PC: http://www.pokemonuranium.com/

I don't have the time to play right now, but I'm definitely going to check it out when I do. I know there are some Pokémon fans here so just thought I'd drop a link.

Trailer:

LOVE the UI for this game.

Will definitely check this out.

You better do that quick before you know what happens.

Pretty sure they won't take it down considering theres a ton of fan games out there that may even be more popular than the actual games themselves.

G Fatal 08-13-2016 03:01 PM

Ty for post, will check this out later :)

some of the games are even using completely legal means to run their games, requireing rom files to play the game

5hift 08-13-2016 05:01 PM

Well... ROMs aren't exactly legal so I dunno about that.

Nintendo does sometimes shut down or limit the distribution of ROMs like they did with CoolROMs.

Dusty 08-13-2016 05:04 PM

Eh, I would hope a fan game would be a little more experimental, given how scared Gamefreak is to do anything different. Still wishing HM's weren't a thing and instead were items or if they remain HM's, simply having them allows any pokemon able to use them to do so without needing to "learn" it. Also wishing pokemon moves were instead learned and moved to a pool that you can swap your current active 4 moves with.

Point is the people who make those games use the ROMs as a way to "load" graphics and such therefor bypassing all the copyright issues. They don't distribute the ROMs, so you have to find them yourself pushing the liabilities on the users instead of them.

Pokemon Zeta and Omnicron has HM items which I think is pretty handy.

Also hope the game difficulty is much harder compared to the main games which are stupid easy.

Pokemon Reborn and Rejuvenation are crazy considering the people who made the game have the AI take advantage of super OP ability combos and field effects such as Cinccino w/ Skill Link and Kings Rock (Kill me).

They also try and force players to use different Pokemon that aren't totally OU which really makes you appreciate the other UU Pokemon out there.

I think I really prefer RPGMaker Pokemon games over ROM hacks considering they really include a hell lot more resources to add totally new things to a Pokemon game.

Most ROM hacks I know of don't require the player to go out and find ROMs.

Liquid Crystal requires you to find an unpatched version of the FireRed ROM and use it to set up the hack using a patching tool included in the download.

I also think as long as these games don't try and profit off the Pokemon name brand they should be fine.

Fan games aren't meant to generate revenue but provide something different for die-hard fans.

That's because they're not ROM hacks. ROMs contain information that's used in the game, including assets like graphics, music and so on. So what they do is make an entirely independent game, with their own code... but instead of going through the risk of hosting/uploading/packaging the copyrighted graphics, they make you provide the ROM and simply load the data from that instead.

Elk 08-13-2016 11:44 PM

a ROM isnt illegal in the first place, its the entire data from the little editions ported onto a PC and then played with an emulator

Pretty sure all the ROM hacks I've downloaded never asked to me to go out and get the base ROM except for Liquid Crystal.

You can just patch the ROM then distribute it as the full game which I'm assuming is what happened with the other ROM hacks I've gotten.

Also looks like Nintendo America harassed the devs into taking down the download links.

RIP.

At least there's probably a metric **** ton of unoffical downloads out there.

imSupah 08-14-2016 02:34 AM

Luckily people uploaded the download to sites like MediaFire and through torrents. Just have to be careful now since these downloads are unofficial and some might not even be the game. With that said, I'm gonna try it since I haven't played Pokemon since White came out.

Thallen 08-14-2016 06:26 AM

I downloaded it ASAP because I knew this would happen, Nintendo is ruthless about this type of stuff

9 years of work for 2 days of public release on their website, 1.5m total download though

Asaiki 08-14-2016 08:38 AM

I NEED ITT!!!

The new pokemon in sun/moon look so bad, why does dragonite have an aloha form???

It's no wonder people prefer fan made games like this over the real one, definitely will be playing this, I was hyped for sun and moon but it looks terrible

G Fatal 08-14-2016 07:18 PM

Any site or links for for games like this?

Honestly wasn't too big of a fan of the uranium pokemon either.

Lmfao Colin, baby, Sun and Moon ain't even out yet. Relax.

TBH I think some of the new Pokemon in Uranium look dumb as hell.

The UI and art style are what really sold the game to me though.

Imprint 08-15-2016 12:03 AM

How does the difficulty of this game compare to the official series?

I know for a fact that it has a built in Nuzlocke mode you can select when you start a new game.

I'd be pretty disappointed if this game that took 9 ****ing years was a goddamn joke to play in terms of difficulty.

Dragonite doesn't even have an Alola form, at least no trailer has revealed it yet anyway...I actually love how the Pokemon have adapted to their environments, certainly makes things more interesting (loving the Ninetails, Eggxecutor and Marowak). The new Pokemon are cute af and the game looks amazing so far (Team Skull <3), dunno what trailers you've been watching.

Also, loving how they're adding so many more features and building on other ones, really hyped. Final starter evolutions look amazing too - they were leaked and were pretty much proven to not be fake:

SPOILER ALERT

Foxmon 08-15-2016 05:18 PM

They removed the download links, rip
Luckily reddit saved the day

It is on the official website Pokedex, along with a few others

also most likely gyms won't be in the new games coming out

I think Pokemon has run its course, after having 721 total pokemon in the national pokedex there isn't really much they can turn to besides making all these weird new pokemon

TBH I wish the dev team behind Uranium just designed an original game, especially considering it spent 9 years in development just to be shut down by nintendo

i consider this the problem. people think of new pokemon games and only think of new pokemon...and some minor gameplay changes.

this is why i think pokemon is a **** game. i like the idea of pokemon, and the card game/collecting was fun when i was in middle school....but pokemon games are disgusting. nintendo literally puts minimal effort into changing the actual game and just come up with new pokemon while they heavily recycle the core of the game.

i dont know if thats what people want, but its no better than CoD...along with the idiots who actually play that garbage.

There's lots that can be done to Pokemon... none of which should be adding more and more new pokemon. They just need to step back and try changing things up more. Change the battle system some, break down the typical pokemon cliches like grass, water and fire starters. Change the goal of the game, the pacing... something.

They add a lot to the games in their defense... but a lot of it never really gets any traction going for these many seemingly random features and by the next gen they've removed it anyways. It's like their gameplay design team is full of people with ADHD.

It looks like they're trying to do something with Sun and Moon, but as always it's sprinkled with what seems to be random ideas with little merit behind them, and even what they are doing is just taking the smallest of possible baby steps towards change so they can say things are different.

In the end Pokemon suffers from either being too scared to change, or developers who can't think outside of the box they've already created. Hell, they won't even port them to the consoles(even virtual console) because they firmly believe "Pokemon should be played on the go" which is the stupidest **** I have ever heard. Don't tell me how to play my game >:(

wow as a person with ADHD i am TRIGGERED

no jk i agree with you

pokemon stadium is actually the only reason i got my n64 back in the day. i loved that game, and loved the fact that it included an adapter so you could play the gameboy games on your n64...and transfer pokemen to stadium.

took the boring **** out and just had the combat, loved it.

I don't even really see what's so amazing about pokemon uranium, the graphics are pretty boring in my opinion
