I get the appeal of going to /r/tumblrinaction every once in a while to see what kind of crazy pops up, but there's literally no end to trolls and otherwise aggravating people on the internet so there's no point getting too worked up over it.

To be quite honest I never really understood the whole concept of some people feeling like the whole world needs to know what they identify as etc.... I think it would be a lot better if all those folks just handled the situation assuming others don't care... Its like they're trying to get some sort of acceptance out of people where really the only acceptance they should care about is their own. I understand the argument that "well the point is to raise awareness that this is a reality" to tone down the discrimination or whatever but I mean the world will always be full of some rude dudes... I don't think all this "awareness" will do anything about that but instead teach the people fighting for "equality" that they need some sort of acceptance from someone else to "win" which is completely false.

Because sometimes it's easier for people to accept themselves after they come out to others as they find it easier to come to terms with...also the awareness is not just to try and get rid of homophobia, it's to possibly help others come out if they are struggling with themselves (ex. there are dozens of videos of people coming out because Tyler Oakley, a dominant figure in the LGBT community, is an inspiration for them).

Also we are still in a point in time where being gay is still not just something a majority of people will say "ok" to. Even today if someone asks if you're gay, even if you casually answer with "yes" people still ask questions like, "When did you come out?" "How did you know?" "What was it like?" etc. etc. It's not just something you say in the middle of a conversation and everyone else says "ok" and then the conversation continues on.

When people are born they are considered to be straight unless they say otherwise. It's an unfortunate truth but it's the reality we live in, and that's why people are compelled to come out.

Plenty of people accept themselves but who doesn't want acceptance from society? From their parents? From their friends? Anyone who says they don't care about that is BSing themselves because one of human's natural desires is to be in the majority and to be accepted. That's why people are compelled to come out on public sites like Facebook and Twitter and etc., because it's not just something that you say to yourself and then suddenly everyone you know understands.

Legally speaking I don't know. Socially speaking the one thing I can recall is how the muder rate of transgender people is disproportionately high. I think that's related to the social acceptance thing that CM wrote about.

Anecdotally I've often seen trans people being mistaken for feminists with little evidence. That's more funny than bad though.

Well for one, there's the bathroom issue.
A lot of businesses won't hire people for being transgender.
The trans-ban in the military (which is being lifted so that doesn't really count)
Plenty of people are disowned for being transgender.
And lots more that I can't list rn because I'm at a party for the 1 year anniversary for Marriage Equality.

Important to remember that what you guys see on "cringe" threads or subreddits is in fact the minority and that feminism as a cause is filled with a broad range of varying opinions. Kind of disgusting that the assumption is made that the majority of feminists want to attack you.

That being said, activism isn't supposed to be comfortable. If it were, we wouldn't move forward.

To be fair, feminism by definition is meant to make the world more comfortable for all people.

Hence: EQUALITY

So why, why the hell are actual "feminists" exalting the idea that everyone who doesn't agree with their viewpoints are automatically inferior?

Unfortunately there is a select number of people here that believe feminism, transgenderism, etc. is about being "tumblr" or forcing yourself to be different, so they resort to describing those types of threads or subreddits as being "cringe" or "cancer".

I think a lot of it roots back to that video that was linked earlier (which was hard to watch) and it led to a bunch of people using it as a way to generalize what all people of that minority are like, and so now we see posts like "all feminists think they're superior!! all feminists think white people are racist! all feminists want privileged rights!!" etc. etc., but yet when someone says "all white people are racist" those same people go crazy, lol.
