Computer Building

I have recently got a budget for a gaming computer and I need a bit of help making a part list due to me being a complete newbie at hardware. I have a budget of $1000 but I prefer going over.

I originally had a part list that was worth $800 but since I got an extra $200, I want to incorporate the extra in there. This was my old part list: http://puu.sh/ol4Qt/c9432d7b39.png

I was thinking of upgrading the case, motherboard and RAM, but upgrading the motherboard pretty much means an entire new list of parts it seems.

Sorry, I'm a noob at these things too, but I got a question for you. I'm assuming you have 8 GB of RAM since you seem like a pretty heavy PC gamer, so why do you have to upgrade your RAM? Isn't that enough to play pretty much any games? Unless you're trying to make videos and stuff.

Pretty much the same as mine with some upgrades, should suit your preferences rather nicely, can vouch it will work well too.

If you'd like I can show you some gameplay with mine? Benchmarks as well?

get the 390 over the 970 unless it's a really good deal

metal 04-18-2016 10:36 PM

Ditto on the 390 over the 970, also.. anyone making in this day and age should have a ssd, especially with a 1k budget, trust me you will want it.

The 390 is almost $500 while the 970 is only $320. I think I'll have to go with the 970 due to price limits.

I'm seeing the 390 for $320 on Amazon.. I would get the 390 since it's faster.

I would never touch the 970. They tried to **** folks over with the whole 3.5GB debacle and the card is still so expensive while not outperforming the 390. In Sweden the 390 is almost always cheaper than the 970 anyway, but that might be different in the US/Canada.

Distorted_P2P 04-19-2016 10:15 AM

I prefer the 970 but whateverrr

optimuswhat 04-19-2016 10:58 AM

I'm pretty convinced on replacing the HDD with an SSD (and using a external HDD for games/programs) and replacing the 970 with a 390.

How about this part list? I might need a better power supply. Any suggestions?

Alright, nice! I assume there's zero possibility of there being any issues such as the case being too small?

I changed a few things up again. This time, I've changed the motherboard and have plans for replacing the CPU cooler with some water cooling.

Any suggestions for water cooling?

the case is ****ing huge

i have it

Crono 04-21-2016 11:02 AM

you want 16gb of ram, its kind of the future

watercooling isn't needed

Also.. If this is for gaming why not downgrade to an i5 and get a better video card? Having an i7 compared to an i5 doesnt make a different in performance(except in rare cases like total war or if you plan on video editing)

John 04-21-2016 11:49 PM

I'm ready for these new GPUs to come out so I can finally upgrade

doesn't hurt to have it tbh

I do plan to do more than just games.
Learning how to make 3D models, animations, programming, etc.
It wouldn't hurt to have a excellent processor!

390 is gonna be your best bang for buck atm, although i'd personally hold out since the new cards are coming out this summer iirc

Does the 390 have an equivalent software to 970's Nvidia Gefore experience?

970 for performance, 370 for price

so no, the 390 is not equivalent

for reference 390 is ~290x performance for the lists that dont have it

Dont ever use GpuBoss, its worthless. And your other 2 links agree that the 390 is better.

SUPER MEGA BUMP! I'm unsure if this is allowed, but I do have something to make this discussion more relevant.

Firstly, link to the parts: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/user/opti...t/saved/krQ8TW

So I have almost finalized my PC part list. All I need to do now is decide whether or not to get the GTX 1070, or an AMD 480. I don't care about brands much, all I want is "the most bang for your buck." The 1070 seems nice, the 480 seems to be really nice. Alternatively, are there any other graphics cards I should get instead? I'm not looking to do an SLI setup due to the lack of support and amount of issues they seem to have.

Really the amd 480 and the 1070 are really good bang for the buck, personally I would get the 480 since I dont plan to do 4k gaming and its only 250 for the 8GB version but its up to you.
