MC: The Hunger Games
 

The second Minecraft Hunger Games will be hosted Saturday, February 25, at 7PM EST.

For those who aren't aware, The Hunger Games is an annual event where a large number of tributes are locked into a natural arena and forced to fight to the death - for the entertainment of the rest of the world.

This Hunger Games arena was created by MattKan and Chaotic. The event will be filmed by Pimpsy although he is not a gamemaker.

Those who signed up for the games are to log onto the following server, which will open 2 hours prior to the start of the games at 5:00 PM EST:

NOTE: Unless 1.2 releases this week, the games will be hosted on 1.1.


Tips to succeed:

• In the center of the arena is a golden structure known as the cornucopia. Inside is a chest containing many valuable items. Will you risk running to fight for it, or will you simply flee into hiding where it is safe?
• I, as well as the other gamemakers, have created many deadly traps around the arena. Look out for any peculiar buttons or pressure pads, and strange diamonds or other items that seem just too good to be true - because they very well might be.
• This should be common sense, but don't bother with chests unless your inventory gets full - if you die, you're dead anyways, so you lose your stuff either way.
• Watch your step. Don't dig down.
• If you can get a diamond sword... that's good. If you can get diamond armor... that's even better.

Note: The following people have signed up - please correct any of my errors.

The event will be recorded by Pimpsy and released later.

Final Word: Unlike the first game, no items will be blocked. Nether Portals will be disabled. If time permits and enough players are logged in, there may be a second games directly after the first hosted on either the same or a different arena.

Why was I de white listed @_@

I fought spider hordes and giants, I had flying gods shoot fireballs and lightning at me as I dodged explosives, I lead wolves into armys of monsters, I chased cowards to the dead end, I found treasure, I found treachery. and one by one, all players fell to my blade. (except scaal, creeper stole my kill!)
I chased seeker to the muddy pit, and slew him there. then (because chaotic said it wasnt fair even when i had to fight the spawned spiders too, and the spiders didnt kill him, i did) , in a final death match versus him, pimpsy used /nuke.. and lagged us and then seeker disconnected

why did pimpsy warp me during nightime away from my base i made so higbey can ambush me?

i found a treasure chest near spawn in a hole, then afterwards i looted cornacopia and killed the giant, then fought off spiders at the oasis chest....
its a long story, lets just say the gamemakers didnt make it easy for me, they should have no difficulty typing in /fireball in 1 second.

he warped me there too, but i wasnt hiding, i was going around at night finding chests and looking for people, you were fighting back but a creeper blew you up while you were looking back at me.

at least you didnt have lightning and spiders and fireballs and tnt being set off at you, chaotic had to yell at pimpsy and matt for harrassing me XD

it doesnt matter if you killed me or not. the fact that pimpsy warped me out of my base during nighttime is kinda unfair.

It's a tie, Higbey and I were greatly abused in the end.

Wow. Buneary killed 4 people instantly after PK was turned on.

The dirt that was played behind us to lock us in was still there when she killed us.

I think this was a fairly successful games. Next month, we're going to host another. (It will be more organized and have a nicer arena.)

i killed you.... and i was in there with the spiders, we were both abused, and considering the whole time i had pimpsy or matt around im pretty sure you werent getting worse than me, they warped people out because they were hiding, it would take forever if they just sat in there and hid.

unfortunatly the arenas like destroyed, and im pretty sure a few people are using hacks since all the chests have been looted by now, but the first game was fun, cant wait till next time.

I think it would be a good idea from now on that we start making routine backups of the server. Just a thought :/

hacks? warping? sounds kinda lame to me.
Why not design the arena with bedrock so people cant dig down a hundred blocks and hide in the earth. sounds like this contest needed more planning.

The game maker who warped a player will not be returning for the next games.

The new arena is currently in construction. I want to keep players from hiding under ground, but I don't want to prohibit them from mining completely. Placing bedrock would essentially leave the players relying on chests for powerful items, and, in the spirit of minecraft, this seems a bit dysfunctional. If anybody has any ideas for solutions, post.

Make mining hotspots were the bedrock layer dips down there and there's tons of ores hidden in the hotspot, and have a sign saying "mining area" on the surface.

The next games will be held Saturday, February 25, 2012 at 7PM EST.

There will be many changes in the way the next games are handled, here are just a few. (If you have any suggestions please post. Post critical feedback from the last games, as well.)

• There were many complaints about Pimpsy abusing, and he will not be returning as a gamemaker.
• There will be a new wall design with an open roof. Systems will be in place preventing people from escaping. This means players will be able to use the glass pane.
• The map will be larger with less treasure. The last game was unbalanced because, once you found a little bit of treasure, you were virtually unstoppable and able to take other treasures with ease.
• Losers will, instead of being kicked off the server, be able to sponsor participants. Chests locked to each participant will be stored in the Cornucopia for these presents.
• There will be designated mining areas at various locations of the map. The rest of the map will have a bedrock coat a few blocks under so that players may not hide under ground for the entirety of the game.
• The contestants will have exactly thirty seconds to run and hide before pk is enabled.
• Eyes of Ender and Enderpearls will be enabled, leaving beds as the only item players cannot place. (Players will be able to build and light nether portals but not travel through them.)
• The new arena will actually have rain and / or snow.
• Without doubt, the new games will be longer and more eventful.

The following rules will serve as a guideline for what gamemakers can and cannot do:

• Gamemakers may spawn treasure in small amounts at different points in the game.
• Gamemakers may change weather as they see fit, but not in rapid succession.
• Gamemakers are not entitled to raid tributes' bases unless in extraordinary conditions at the end of the game; however, if a person builds their base on a predetermined volcano, forest, etc., their house may be inadvertently destroyed in a gamemaker caused disaster.
• Gamemakers are not permitted to change time from day to night or vice versa, unless they are creating a longer day or night.
• Gamemakers are not permitted to spawn large seas of mobs on a particular individual; if a tribute is unstoppable and dominating, the gamemakers are entitled to create a bigger threat for them, but they are not entitled to finish him off or critically weaken him. That being said, gamemakers should generally provide equal obstacles to all tributes.
• No gamemaker is prohibited to directly kill a tribute using lightning, a fireball, or mob spawning. If a gamemaker triggers a disaster such as a forest fire and the player is caught up in it, then the player may be killed and the gamemaker will not be guilty, provided the disaster was started a decent amount of blocks away from the player.

If you would like to be a gamemaker in these games, please Forum PM me with brief information about yourself and pictures of traps, structures, etc. you've created on minecraft. These applications are due February 11 at 11:59 PM EST. I'm looking to hire 2-3 new faces to run the games in addition to myself.

Well that was a.... really rude way to put it XD, but anyways I wasn't abusing in any sort though to all the people that were complaining. Sorry if you thought that. I already explained all my reasoning :P, although I dont want to be a game maker this time anyways. It would be cooler to film it first person. Anyways all the other changes sound awesome! Im really looking forward to it!

I want to compete really but im on a laptop, i got major lag tho 2 Iv always hated this crazy lag but unless i get a comp tower before the 25th or any of u no how to stop lag on acer laptops (acer laptop not mac) ill compete but note that ill lag like crazy so i need help wit this lag.....

No way to remove the lag, when you're running minecraft your onboard GPU gets bottle necked.
You could try 'Optifine', but chances are then you'll get a CPU bottleneck in it's place which could end up much worse.

The games will be hosted a week from tomorrow, Saturday, February 25, 2012 at 7:00 PM EST. The server will be consistent with the main Graalians server in case a new update comes out before the games start.
