Prime Neo Jenova G.O.A.T

Runner up: Brett/Ares
too close to decide.

just my experience.

Not that hardly anyone here would even know what I am talking about.

Thallen 11-14-2015 09:26 AM

when the PC client was alive and sparring was at its most competitive level, it was 100% Brett in terms of skill, attitude, tournament performance, etc.
gonna go ahead and go with a timid "no comment" if we're talking about the best from iClassic times

Crono 11-14-2015 11:29 AM

neo was good but not like hes the best in history guys, jesus. he is top tier but brett and ares too good

Skt A. Sangue 11-14-2015 12:57 PM

In terms of leaving a legacy; keeping in mind I haven't even opened up classic in 5ever so I don't know any new fancy smancy sparrers; I always think of Rufus and Nyte.

It's not so much if you're good. It's more if you're remembered.

A noob can technically do the same exact moves a "pro" does and still lose a spar. Doesn't mean they're any worse.

A majority of everyone knows who each of those people are, it's common knowledge in graal sparring, don't feel too specialn

Areo 11-14-2015 04:44 PM

I would say Thallen, because he lives in a world

Do you even know what G.O.A.T stands for?

Comyt 11-14-2015 05:21 PM

from what i've seen (so greatest of 2009-present rather than all-time):

pc: either prado or ares, probably prado.
device: me by far

Aaron 11-14-2015 05:51 PM

Not saying I am special. And it doesn't matter if you "know" who they are or have simply heard of them. Being around and sparring them and experiencing it back then is different than just knowing who they are. Sparring is a perishable skill. Being great at one time doesn't mean you will be great 10 years later.

GOAT is banned for being a GOAT :(

I think a lot of people from the PC client had their moment of a few months where they were #1
I can recall Neo and Deo winning many of the earlier competitive UTCs, then Brett and Quick Strike started winning a bunch, then I think Ares and I had a run where we won many of them around the same time period

I don't really know what happened after that because I quit somewhere between 2008-2009, but Ares and Brett probably won a lot more
Neo won a bunch all in between there and I forget when or how many Highlander won

UTC was the important one but Babylon and Delteria had really good tournaments as well, those Delterian MV and Insomniac tournaments were cool
The scrub era must have began afterwards because the only circumstance where I can imagine Warhawk or Sean being considered at the top is if everyone else quit, so I'm just gonna invalidate that entire time period and pretend it never happened

David, Jack, Prado, and Zeross are good and from that same generation of sparrers though
I still think Brett was the best when it mattered most because he'd pretty regularly crush every other good sparrer, specifically when he was using the "Holy Knight" account since that's when I think sparring was probably the most competitive

It's all obviously an opinion but I think stuff like this can be validated based on tournament performances and spar records, but some wins just don't mean as much before or after certain time periods because sparring was just dry

Completely agree. There are a lot of sparrers that were at the top at one point or another and I would be hard pressed to even make like a top 15 all time list cause so many people were so close at one point or another.

Let's not forget though that Neo was the champion sparrer of the one and only graalympics XD

I feel that, I had my moment and I'm pretty sure it only lasted a month or 2 :(

David 11-15-2015 07:09 PM

Ares for being the most consistent, remaining relevant forever and never getting rusty. Also remember him winning most tournaments across the servers that mattered.

so is brett.

Zideruic 11-15-2015 08:48 PM

Greatest of all time would probably mean longest sustained duration of one player dominating over the largest portion of his competition, bar none that is Brett.

Ares/Neo have had a similar level of dominance over the field, but neither of there reigns have been as long as Brett's is.

I haven't been around long for the iClassic era but i'd say Thallen falls into that category now too, as he has sustained long term dominance over a large portion of the competition on iClassic.
