Windows 10!

So its now available and its also possible to jump the que for the download with a cmd command.
I've heard from my friends its great and only uses 1GB of ram, sadly I won't be able to find out as my pc overheated spontaneously in the middle of the upgrade screen.

Any thoughts and opinions on the new OS? :D

Albie 07-30-2015 01:58 AM

DO NOT GET IT.

You won't be able to play games as hardly any games are compatible with Windows 10 yet.

SouthernZombie* 07-30-2015 02:46 AM

I don't play games so it's downloading atm.

The Doctor 07-30-2015 02:49 AM

I've already installed it! Looks great.

5hift 07-30-2015 03:02 AM

I'd say wait a little bit to upgrade.

Takes some time for them to get the bugs out.

MattKan 07-30-2015 03:14 AM

Frustrated because GetWindows10 won't run on my laptop for some reason and when I run the Media Creation Tool from Microsoft's website it gives me the error "Something happened" as soon as I tell it to upgrade the current PC.

Something indeed has happened.

Colin 07-30-2015 03:16 AM

Had it for months running the developers preview mode, they are continuing the program so users can still test new features before they are added so quick link in case any of you want to sign up.

I like it. Especially Cortana and the personalized start menu.

fair point. Thats why I got Windows 7 over 8 when I built my PC

Crono 07-30-2015 11:23 AM

For those of you who can't figure out how to upgrade:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/windows10

I like the look of the new start menu but I hate how everything you pin gets added to the "tiles". I had to re-install classicshell (which still works btw).

Haven't been able to find many (or any really) games with incompatibility issues. Even so, running them in compatibility mode works great when things like that are buggy. I did find a few pages with lists of incompatible games, but I tested a handful of them and was able to run each one easily.

The OS feels really fast and smooth to me. Apart from a couple customization bits that I feel will be available in the future, it definitely feels a step ahead of Win7. Over coming months, we will see if it lives up to its predecessor's stability.

5hift 07-30-2015 04:55 PM

DVR feature looks pretty cool, definitely want to try that out.

EDIT: Alright, just installed it.

Not bad, honestly.

Everything is crisp and not so many colors to make it feel like a bad LSD trip.

Performance-wise, things seem a little slow for me but that may just be a problem on my side.

Overall, I think this is good and if you can, upgrade to it.

Oh, and my games run just fine. Been playing around with the DVR feature and works really well.

Dark Ice Cream 07-30-2015 09:51 PM

My sister's Acer laptop got its recent Windows 10 Upgrade. I really love it. I had trouble in some things before, but I feel smoother using the Windows 10 unlike Windows 8.

Plus Microsoft Edge is darn fast.

Not all of them, world of tanks for a start.

5hift 07-31-2015 02:01 AM

Oh crap I shouldn't have upgraded because World of Tanks isn't compatible yet.

Just do what Draenin said, geez.

Tyler 07-31-2015 05:32 AM

Liking it for the most part except for one big annoying bug. Whenever my laptop is in sleep mode for awhile, I'll open it up and it'll have a black screen instead of my lockscreen. Sometimes it's hard to even tell if it's off. I hate force shutting down my computer so I hope I can find out what the source of the issue is.

My PC does something like that. It's just a black screen and won't wake up. I'm on 8.1 even.

The Doctor 07-31-2015 06:20 AM

Apparently, some people with AMD graphics cards have been experiencing the black screen issue. Try updating the driver. If that doesn't work, wait a few more days for AMD to get their stuff together.

This **** happens to me on Win7 anyway.

Worth installing 10 though? Is the whole mobile phone-style interface as intrusive as 8?

Yeah, I read about someone with the issue. Someone said they had it resolved by updating their graphics card driver. Apparently mine wasn't up-to-date either so I updated it and hopefully that will be the end of the problem. If not, I'll keep looking for solutions.

Kirko 08-01-2015 02:08 AM

I've gotten stuck installing windows 10 twice, both at 32%. Now I'm downloading windows 10 for the third time now since when I restarted my laptop it didn't save for some reason.

Draenin 08-01-2015 03:43 AM

Video card vendors are trying to catch up with the Windows 10 release at the moment. That's most likely the reason for funky video output issues people are having.

Probably gonna wait to upgrade until most of the issues get ironed out. I did get to try it out a little bit yesterday, though, and was pretty pleased with it.

Rule of thumb for pretty much any OS is to wait until they patch stuff first, and then use it.

iMask 08-01-2015 03:53 AM

Upgraded and loving it! I love how they brought back the start menu!

Spirit19 08-01-2015 04:49 AM

Question. If I upgrade the OS, will I lose everything on my hardrive?

Nope. Although a backup is recommended just in case :)

Spirit19 08-01-2015 04:54 AM

Dang, I need a clean-up xD

twilit 08-01-2015 08:07 PM

Found this today and couldnt resist.

Tyler 08-01-2015 08:49 PM

Agh. My computer still has a black screen when it enters sleep mode. I searched online and several HP users have the same problem, but no solution is present. If this continues with no solution I sadly will have to switch back. I leave my computer in sleep mode a lot so this is a big no no glitch for me.

Oh crap, same thing for me as well.

I now wish I stuck with what o said earlier and just waited a week or two to upgrade but I honestly couldn't resist.

Yeah, it still didn't work. I'm hoping there will be an update fix for this. The weird part is my sister just got a new computer yesterday which is the same type as mine with Windows 10 installed, but she isn't having the issue. I wonder if it's caused by something switching over.

I was stalking a PC tech forum and someone said they contacted HP support about the issue and that they'd have upgraded drivers soon. They also listed another temporary fix I have yet to try. I'll leave it here in a spoiler in case anyone has the issues and wants to try it. Otherwise, I'll be hoping those drivers will solve the problem when they're available.

Whether they fix my problem or not, I found another reason to switch back:

http://imgur.com/gallery/I8u2G

Even if I disable all of these privacy settings, they are apparently reactivated by a Windows Update according to the commenters... I don't think I want that.

Edit: Now another poster is saying some of the information is incorrect and a lot of people are overworrying. I don't know. I'll keep it at 8.1 for now.

Skill 08-05-2015 01:53 AM

upgraded, the taskbar icons are way too small, even with the small icons settings turned off... this is at 1920x1080 too...

Ash Ketchum 08-05-2015 07:32 AM

Lol, I'm still on preview
