Quality of GST hats
 

I can tell u all hats sucks. i feel sorry for the teams that are going to win. but it's just me comparing to the old gst hats. Some people does it for the belt and pride.

Let us discuss, pls explain on how/why is this true

When people say "these hats suck" it can mean in 2 ways. One is that the art was done in a bad way. Like pillow shading or using too much dithering, AA, or bad line work (this can be argued because it's there to be dissected). And two it's just an opinion that they don't like how the hats look. Theme, color scheme, size, or whatever might be the reason(point being that it's true because it's his opinion)



FYI not everyone is a fan of this simplistic look classic is trying to push.

Sorry didn't fully support my statement. GOAT pretty much explained everything, but I will add on my personal opinion about recent GST hats.

Creativity - Yes, they are being creative and making hats that doesn't make sense, but I am not harshly against it.

Coloring - Coloring is the only thing I like. It has that iClassic only style in colors.

Size - BIGGEST PROBLEM #1 Over sized, under sized, non-fitting, fits awkwardly, have a different look on the front and side, what the f- seriously. Before even speaking about the design itself, there's ALWAYS a hat that's not aligned correctly OR the hat size is like f-ing huge/small or looks amazing on the front but fugly on the side or back.

Design - Designs and creativity are closely related, if they can manage the size and alignment properly, people can come up with any design.

Solution? Well dude, they have to double check after uploading it. Don't let it just fit on THEIR head. Make sure it fits to Commonly used Custom boy's head and Noob head.

Imma put a bunch of pictures tomorrow just comparing OLD GST HATS and NEW GST HATS.

I wasn't at first sure if this was a serious request on feedback or not, but I will try to give some anyway. Not feedback on "why they suck" but just on what I think a lot of the complains are focused on.

Some of what Zet said was true I think, about the size of some of the hats. But this is still somewhat opinion, though it may be the opinion of a majority (I don't know that but I know there are a lot of complaints and this might be why, for those who can't articulate what they think is wrong with them). I actually like where they're going with the concept of the hats, I have no qualms about that at all (if I were to have qualms about getting a hat that represents an accomplishment rather than just another hat). However, the hats often cover the face or don't seem to fit just right, as Zet was mentioning. Additionally, with some hats (only some) it's hard to wear them and look nice without 1.) wearing all black colors, as black goes with everything, or 2.) Buy VIP so you can get the colors that will go with the hat. Personally, I don't mind this too much, as I don't even wear the hats that often, but I can see others thinking this about hats as well. I'd be interested to see a side by side comparison of the old ones vs. the new ones, so Zet should hurry up and post his comparison pictures. I do understand a lot of the older hats were already made and can be found on other servers, most notably UN. Such examples include the large glasses, propeller hat, and the electric wings. But before I get off on a tangent, I don't want to sound like a brat here, so I do want to thank the graphics team for doing this every 3 months amongst their other works, I'm just trying to point out why many people may not like them.

Fulgore gave us some good examples of hats I am missing right now.
I'm missing hats, like PrimeTime's GST hats, Mother & US GST hats.

Thank you GraalSun from IG for having a picture of old GST hats from CrimeWatcher's GH. The first Image is just an image without any watermarks. The second image is just me judging all the previous GST hats. The ones with 'X' are hats that look ugly to me. However they still fit nicely on any normal heads (no over sized hats, side view looks great). Rest of them looks amazing/fine/great. If I won GST and had to make a decision, I'd pick the ones with 'X' marks over the latest GST hats. THAT'S HOW LAME IT LOOKS IMO.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the traffic cone or dragon hat. Seductive's (i think that was the guild) "meat hangin off da ears" hat still makes me laugh.

The first 2 are alright

the very first hat looked horrible till the art was redone and it looks amazing now.

Most hats don't seem to be created with their usability in mind these days unfortunately. Not sure why, they're all made with the hat template and you can see the basic head shape on it.

It had nothing to do with the topic that it was in. The discussion has depth to it (your pictures) and therefore probably shouldn't just be deleted.

The quality in hats dropped once they started only having their own current staff make them.

While I do agree with you and honestly, every time a GST comes round we always say right, lets have a real go at doing some great GST hats this time round, it clearly seems to not go through. There's also the fact that the hats are so different normally due to everyone submitting their own particular hat rather than 1/2 person making all of them, so maybe that can be altered too.

Thx for the feedback, and i'll keep that picture of TA's GST collection as a reminder of what 'good' GST hats look like!

No. Just no. Graal PC had for the most part horrible hats.

The white mage hat with the black stripe on it is no longer just a GST hat, it was given away by accident and they replaced it with a new one because of it I believe, I have it and I did not participate in that GST and when I told Storm that's what she told me.

Just keep using hats from PC graal

P.S. that green helmet is the worst GST hat to this date

Most hats that were old and beautiful are PC graal hats! I don't know what you think you're talking about :rolleyes:

there were more ugly hats in the past, but it wasn't chosen.

it's really the current/past gfx admins, not the server.

another thing worth realizing about the early GST hats being such a high quality is that they had many, many years worth of PC hats to pick from - tons of hats from PC Graal are actually really awful, but hats have been a thing since 2001 and I don't think the first GST was until 2010, so that's 9 years of work that they were able to choose from

which hats are from pc graal dawg?

not 100% positive but I'm pretty sure the majority of the ones that were picked by the winners pre-"Mother era" were from PC Graal

Pretty sure Memento Mori hat is from UN and the GIF US Wings were too, there has definitely been more though!

Last time I checked classic still accepted hat submissions. All you graphic experts should submit hats and put GST(on the actual hat) on it and it might get used. Disclaimer should be "GST hat only"

The gst thallen's team won look like the whole team caught a tumor(I wouldn't be surprised if anyone in the team had one irl). I mean honestly, whoever makes these gst hats probably just stopped smoking their cigars/pipes

Since .gif hats are removed from 1k towers and only used for 5k towering guilds maybe we can get more .gif hats for the GSTs. But not overdone maybe just like 1Gif Hat for a GST Prize a year (maybe summer when more people are off work/school). I've always admired .gif stuff and I have wanted a hat to go with the darkman-shield.gif.

I think there's only 1 gif GST hat and heard it's from pc graal. lol
