Applications?

Do applications for staffing positions even come out for iClassic?
I've never seen an application ever come out.

MrSimons 07-24-2014 12:19 AM

Pretty sure their Graphics Team is always hiring. Most servers have 24/7 Graphics Hiring.

Colin 07-24-2014 12:23 AM

Here is the GP Application: http://graalonlineclassic.com/gpapp.php

Ah, I'm not looking for the GP application as I've heard, that you to be known in the Classic community, which I'm not.

I know that there are some developers that would like to work on classic but management has an "invite only" system.

o_O? Invite only system* sorry.

Colin 07-24-2014 12:46 AM

lmao don't listen to Fire Surge, life lesson.

Graal Police aren't developers, which is what I quoted. And you don't have to be "known" to be hired.

Makes sense because the coding community is small and so everyone knows everyone and it is better to hire someone who you know can code well, and what their style is. (for a lot of reasons)

Not looking for a GP position though, =[

If you are talented in what you do, I would suggest start posting your work on the community and set up some ground roots, that is the best way to get started as a graal developer.

^This, its much easier to get hired somewhere if you know people in your field. And the best way to do that is to post your work here, receive feedback, and get to know some of the other people doing it.

Otherwise it'll be pretty damn hard to get a Dev position.

what are pre-req's for levelers ?!?!?!?

Fire Surge 07-24-2014 07:23 PM

Colin is an idiot, so you shouldn't really listen to him. What I said was true. Developers can't apply. GPs do not develop. Maybe Colin thinks they do, it wouldn't surprise me.

Colin 07-24-2014 07:25 PM

I am pretty stupid not going to lie, developers can apply, I assume you think they can't based on a personal note?

Fire Surge 07-24-2014 07:37 PM

It was said in a previous thread by Fp4 I believe that the developers are chosen.

Also I don't do any hiring of any kind, I really only get involved when there's a project or bugs that need addressing. If there's a need for another NAT you'll be kept in mind.

I would recommend getting experience on iEra or iZone, they're way easier to get hired on and probably have projects or something they want a NAT for.

The scripting team is invite only, but development extends beyond scripting.

As I even stated earlier regarding scripters, if you want to be apart of the Classic team you would have to be pretty well known and be involved with the other scripters for various reasons.

GOAT 07-24-2014 08:17 PM

i wouldnt call LATs and gani's developers. LAT's are more like interior designers :P

I guess technically you can call them.

I found an old post which shows the overworld map that I helped to design and build when I was the LAT Admin (which then encompassed graphics, ganis, scripting, and tiling). Most ledge tiling in that map can be attributed to me, even though my primary role was scripting. Almost noone can do cliff tiles right. A few historic cases of cliff tiling that break proportions on that map are Onnet Town and behind the wedding chapel north of the Joint. There are a lot of bad examples of cliff tiling in the newer levels on iGraal.

This older map had a lot more levels (many of which were transplanted to the above map). There was even a complementary set of underwater levels. One day I went online to discover that the map had been reduced to the boundaries of Burger Refuge on the west, Master Li's on the east, Supernick's in the north, and The Joint in the south.

After that I joined development, became the admin, tried to rebuild, but scripting talent was extremely sparse, and scripters that were qualified would often work on what they wanted to work on rather than working on a directed goal. There were also very few talented levelers, but they produced the most, which led to a large world with not a lot of content.

Of course most of my scripts have been nixed because I made a custom movement and serverside hit detection system (a requirement from the server manager), and a lot of the scripts I wrote depended on the movement system. Well, at least the horse script I made wouldn't let you go through walls.

Just out of curiosity, if you could apply to script again for classic, would you?

Draco 07-25-2014 03:38 PM

Maybe, maybe not. The staff on iClassic are more loyal than iEra in my opinion

Toxic 07-25-2014 07:47 PM

If I received any full-time wages, I might consider dropping my current job. If I received part-time wages, I'd stop taking classes on top of my full-time job. If I received explicit attribution, I would be welcome to provide scripting in my free time. I just can't contribute something for nothing anymore.
