GST Hats
 

Not sure if you guys have seen the GST Hats but they are just well they don't look very appealing. Can we please just get new hats or let us make our own hats because that would just be a lot better.

Allowing a guild to submit there own hat would be easy to enforce, just like guilds be able to submit custom hats for 1k guilds

Exactly and it's a full proof system because they won't exactly complain about their own hats.

Or at least use hats from other servers that have been made. The general consensus of participants in the GST is that we'd prefer either designing our own hats or having ones already made, such as a variety of hats on UN.

not into the idea of submitting your own hats, but I do think the quality of hats should be respectable being that it happens once every 3 months

the swords hat for Mixed is kinda neat, I don't see much for iDevice
I don't care at all though, just speaking for my iDevices
it's all a matter of opinion anyway

Lets just say, the swords hat is a little light on the ground and didnt exactly seem like a lot of time had been spent on it.

Or you should get to choose what type of hat you want and the people that made the gst hats could make it. There's like what 96 teams altogether. OUt of 96 teams 4 teams will get a hat so the hat quality should be worth it. Or before the hats get submitted we should atleast get to see them so the dev get feedback.

Haven't seen them but I'm gonna assume its because Shane isnt there to give them hats anymore.

Obviously it's a bit late now to make changes but for the next GST i'm up for listening to the kind of hats active sparrers would want to see as prizes.

Why does the iDevice and Mixed hats have to separate to begin with?

a) have all 4 winning teams select hats. If two guilds want the same hat: 1st place winners take precedence over 2nd place (as it is now); Flip a coin (or use some other determinant) to decide whether iDev or Mixed gets first choice.

b) allow the 4 winning teams to select hats using the current method, but if a team does not like their options, they are allowed to chose the leftover hat from the opposite GST.

I know several sparrers like the wing hats, as well as other popular hats from UN. Personally, I don't/have hardly ever played UN so I don't really know all of the hats, but I'm told the server has many great ones, and I would also be an advocate for wings, although I understand it may be a bit of a problem since US has one similar to others.

Hats are hats anyways, all they are, are trophies and once you get the hats you so "died" for you forget about it the next week.

If you mean the flaming wings hat, that thing has been recolored and reanimated so many times that it hardly matters anymore. Even on iClassic, people continued to take it and mold it to fit their personal likes for tower guild hat rewards. Personally, as long as the exact same hat isn't recycled, it doesn't bother me whatsoever.

• helmets that aren't obnoxious and huge
• masks

sparrers like hats with darker themes
unique stuff, like I personally found the swords hat from this GST to be cool (despite it being such a small effort)

... That would take away the specialness lol.

Thanks for this info, I spoke to some sparrers today about their opinions and got quite a variety as well.

- Some believed wings to be a bit mainstream and instead would prefer a different feature, (maybe horns instead?)
- GIF if done right can make a hat look twice as appealing.
- Hats should have a consistent theme, most suggested 'warrior's helmet'
- Some like how 'GST' is written on the hat whereas others don't.

8 out of 10 of the average Battle Arena people would do anything for a recolor of the electric wings that US won in a GST forever ago, and it's not even original

certain hats or types of hat just strike sparrers as "sparrer hats"
mostly GIF wings, Anbu masks, stuff of this nature

I feel like it kind of stamps the hat as an official GST hat, but I can see how it'd look obnoxious or stupid on certain ones

I voted to pick the swords hat for this Mixed GST because it represented sparring in some way and it was the most unique
The "GST" on the back of it isn't necessary, but it's well-placed and at least people will never question where I got it

I do agree that the GST hats have been progressively getting worse and worse as each GST goes by. I think something that you could do is allow teams to submit their own hats and allow the winners to select from all the hats submitted. The ones that aren't used that time around can be stored and use for next time. Maybe a gralat prize can be given to the players who's hat was picked as a way to encourage more people to submit hats.

I wish I could see more mage hats. The first place prize for this GST for iDev was a mage hat which I actually kinda like. I want to see way more of these as they're my favorite style of hat. I know not many people use mage hats for sparring but I really like them. I've never seen a guild who's 1k/5k hat was a mage hat. Is there any reason why this style of hat isn't as popular?

the option to submit a GST hat to replace your own has been present for years.
US mixed won the archery hat, and replaced it with a unicorn horn, now the archery hat is the archery hat.
every GST hat is insanely ugly, just replace them if you actually win and care about hats that much.

Ive sure never heard that rule. I bet most winners in the last handful of GSTs would have done this if they had known...

Tbh i think all the gst hats, well most of them look good and the people who have them are lucky to have them.

to imply that something happening once in Graal makes it fair or a universal rule is stupid
at the most, staff might improve the quality of your hat but they will not just completely exchange it (as they shouldn't)

Yeah, because the archery range was being made at the same time. They figured the hat would be better suited for that area.

I cooked up the swords hat that thallen won. I wasnt necesarily going for complexity more just something unique.

oh sorry let me restate in a way that we can all understand.

when i was in US, i recall that rufus himself said we have always been allowed to submit our own replacement gst hats and it's funny because nobody has ever known. i don't know if this is still in place of course, but it was, because he definitely said that.

I really liked the sword one so.

Yeah, Ruf and staff thought the robin hood hat would make for a great archery prize, so I was contacted and asked to choose another existing hat to upload and replace the previous prize with. I agreed and decided on the unicorn horn.

Ruf was always able to upload any hat for the prizes since he ran the tournament and was officially staff after the first few competitions. Of course, his specific policy doesn't apply right now since he is no longer involved. I don't recall him saying that the winning guild may submit a replacement, but I'm not 100% confident to support either position in the argument. The best thing to do is to ask the current staff team involved with the GST about regulation prizes vs custom submission replacements.

For the record, I'm fine either way. I see my opinion unbiased.
