Wiki

Classic is arguably becoming a game about collecting. Most of the game's content— hats, furniture, morphs, bugs, mounts, diving loot, etc.— tends to be centered around this simple concept. But what kind of collection-oriented game is complete without a wiki to document it all?

I think it's high time that we pool our resources together and start to work on one. There's already plenty of discussion on these forums regarding this type of stuff, so I think the Graalians community is a good place to start with this project. Pages could be made for stuff such as:
  • The different bugs, diving loot, and (maybe someday?) fish
  • Different hats and heads
  • Questing Items
  • Mounts and Morphs
  • Furniture
  • Information about the different guilds
  • NPC Information, especially for RPS players
  • Holiday Events
  • Additional content like events, CTF, Archery, and Tower Taking
  • Maybe even individual guilds and players?
  • etc.

It'd be nice if the web masters could install MediaWiki (the same software that Wikipedia uses) so that everything can be kept in one place. MediaWiki is one of the most powerful wiki systems our there for free and it has literally everything we'd need to run a wiki. It's a little more complicated when it comes to adding and moderating wiki content than Wikia however, but skills can be learned.

I suggested this idea a while back on Facebook and it had some positive responses, so I'm completely for the idea.

There used to be a Media Wiki @ Graalians.com/wiki. It was heinously slow, and quite frankly I don't want to make a Wiki that's tied down to the lifetime of this site. I'm not saying these forums should or will shut down, but if they do for whatever reason I wouldn't want it to jeopardize the wiki.

Samie 11-17-2013 04:51 PM

can you catagorize all the tile errors and put it in your wiki
and i would love to help on your site, if you need me, i don't know that much, but i could sure help put :D

Hnnnng, good point.

If you're looking for something that doesn't rely on this web server's storage then an external system like Wikia is probably your best bet.

Don't know who made that change lol

Mejico Josh 11-17-2013 08:50 PM

I think this is very much needed. Ive always wanted a book in graal that can tell you all the basic stuff. Like where every bug is and what they sell for, where spefic items are (drainsine) just stuff that would help out the new players

Blueh 11-17-2013 08:58 PM

I support the creation of an unofficial official graal wiki. Not so sure about the 'individual player' part of it unless its to commend those who contributed to the community in some way and left an impact.

Zoologist 11-17-2013 09:16 PM

I'd love to help organize the insects

Fire Surge 11-17-2013 09:28 PM

Just finished an article on Balamb Island!

I'll make pages for the NPCs on the island later!

MattKan 11-17-2013 09:31 PM

Check out the dividers under the Classic header and tell me what you think. Am I missing anything?

Balamb didn't come out along side the app, I think it came out along-side honor points :0. I couldn't tell you when that was though.

Cervus 11-18-2013 12:16 AM

Under Locations, add Deadwood, and Air Asia. I don't know what it meant by Tropical Island..? I think it's supposed to be Oasis.

PS I'd love to organize events, along with few others :D

MrSimons 11-18-2013 12:16 AM

There was an old wiki somewhere that I worked on but it ended up not working out; I'd be happy to help with this one. Especially with the Zone section :P

Dusty 11-18-2013 12:40 AM

I have a full-sized generated(1:1, or I think 50% at least) render of the overworld map if you guys want to use it for the areas instead of the crappy map croppings.

The filesize is massive though, 18mb.

twilit 11-18-2013 12:48 AM

1. Yes.
2. lol only pages are Balamb Island and Deadwood...
3. Classic/Era/Zone would seriously need SEPARATE wikias... That way its clear which game's content youre looking at...

MattKan 11-18-2013 12:51 AM

You guys don't need my permission to edit anything! :P If you have a page you want to work on just go in there and get started. I'll come back with templates and stuff for the different page headers in the upcoming days. Maybe we can get a standardized outline for each page type by the end of the week?

I'm limited to 10 entries.

PHP Code:

***Graal City|Graal City
***MoD Town|MoD Town
***Swamp Town|Swamp Town
***Onnet Town|Onnet Town
***Belle Island|Belle Island
***Snow Town|Snow Town
***Deadwood|Deadwood
***York Town|York Town
***Railroad Caves|Railroad Caves
***Balamb Island|Balamb island
***Oasia|Oasis
***Air Asia Town|Air Asia Town

There's the 12 I'd like to include. Which can be combined / dropped? Air Asia is the obvious choice since it's completely useless and I can't imagine anyone would want to actually read about it. (We can still have a page for it, there's just no need for it to be in the navigation.) The Railroad Caves could maybe be dropped because they aren't really a town, but they are still obviously a major aspect of the server, more so than many of the actual towns, so I think they should be included for that reason. What are your thoughts?

HON3Y BADG3R 11-18-2013 01:09 AM

Awesome. Im gonna add some things

Imprint 11-18-2013 01:28 AM

Maybe split locations into categories (OW Map, VIP, Caves) and then have a hub page in each of those links. Easier to navigate and you don't leave things out.

My thought is, put the islands, not including belle, together ( Balamb, Oasis, Asia) into one, since they're pretty minor. So railroads will be there, and 'Other Minor Islands' will be there as well.

Here ya go, the best renders I could get. Can be used to generate better quality images of different areas instead of using the in-game map.

I have a great idea, we could make a whole section about this guy called Jerln, I've heard he's pretty awesome.

Fire Surge 11-18-2013 07:28 PM

What you need to do:

Delete the Era and Zone sections, rename it "iClassic" wikia if possible.
The three servers have way too much to be on the same wikia, let alone delteria will only add the the disorganization.

Under Gameplay, make the tabs: (Ten Tabs)

~Guilds
~Towers
~(Guild) Houses
~Events
~Spar
~Player-Killing
~Mini-games
~Quests
~Holiday Events

Collectibles is fine.

Under Locations, make the tabs:

~Towns (will open a disambiguation page)
~Caves
~Shops (will open a disambiguation page)
~Islands
~Points of Interest

Rename Characters to NPCs.

Include the following under NPCs:

~Attackable NPCs
~Merchants
~Quest NPCs
~RPS NPCs
~Human NPCs
~Non-Human NPCs
~Miscellaneous NPCs (if some do not fall under the latter categories)

Create a new tab labeled Development.
Under it include:

~Graal Police
~Developers
~Graphics
~Level Developers
~NPC Developers
~Eurocenter
~How-to - Levels
~How-to - Graphics
~How-to - Scripting (dusty nd rofos pls)

I don't think a game wiki is a good place to have articles on development.

MattKan 11-18-2013 09:56 PM

Going to try to obtain the graalonlineclassic.wikia.com address and make it 100% classic oriented. We'll see.

MattKan 11-26-2013 12:14 AM

This project has not been abandoned!

Waiting for them to approve the graalonlineclassic.wikia.com address. Should be done in 2-3 days so we can get started over Thanksgiving Break.

Sariss 11-26-2013 12:31 AM

Sweet. I shall try to add in any way I can.

Sicx 11-26-2013 11:41 PM

I can help if you need anyone's help ^.^

Crag 11-27-2013 02:54 AM

I will definitely contribute!

Sariss 11-27-2013 04:24 AM

Has the address been approved yet?

eevee2 11-27-2013 07:25 PM

Is it done?
I would like to help if it's not done yet :D

Dusty 11-27-2013 07:27 PM

:O Sounds like we need to be immortal now ._.

MattKan 11-28-2013 11:56 PM

They're supposed to just transfer everything to the new address in the next few days or so.

Which means . . . we can start without losing any progress! :D

>>> http://graalians.wikia.com/ <<<

If anybody is interested in doing specific sections, now is the time to speak up. (Blueh and Zoologist are in charge of the bugs.) I'm working on infobox templates for the various sections atm and will start putting them on pages when I'm done.

NeoZX 11-29-2013 12:02 AM

Graal in general, stop being so bias in this one iOS server.
Get PC 1998-2008 before this.

Crag 11-29-2013 02:20 AM

Hmm...

What can I work on? I can pretty much do anything you need me to do; I'm pretty knowledgable in classic.

Currently I am adding picture to various topics.

MattKan 12-02-2013 09:34 PM

Address has been approved. Wiki is now available at http://graalonlineclassic.wikia.com

Dusty 12-02-2013 09:44 PM

I don't think the wiki should serve as a database for image filenames and such like shields/swords. We already have more appropriate sites for that. Also people need to familiarize themselves with proper wiki writing standards(ie don't thank someone for a contribution in the wiki).

I was thinking that some shields might have a history or significance that might be interesting to read about (and isn't detailed on other sites that are much better databases for this type of thing, like Taylor Richaards) but I'll go ahead and remove those categories for now. When the wiki is more complete and populated with many more players, we can maybe think about implementing particular shields and swords in some way.

Colin 12-04-2013 12:38 AM

I'll take charge of the "Characters" section.

I have enough free time to add the character , picture of them, and their dialogue and meaning in the game (if they have one), I can get on it this weekend just not now because I am busy with a huge drama presentation.

Other wikia pages seem to work fine, but that link is incredibly slow to the point I don't even think it's loading.

Kendama 12-04-2013 08:32 PM

I worked on this back in the day with my friend. Check it out. It may or may not help serve purpose to you but it has good information
