GrimeCraft - GraalOnline Minecraft Server

I have been planning this for months now. I have finally come to a point were I am ready to start developing the server and looking for staff members to help me. Lexia wasn't really getting anywhere to be honest. Cutting right to the chase, here's my plan.
  • It's going to be a platform (2D) style gameplay. Picture mario, but on a Graal server called GrimeCraft haha. You can interact with blocks and such with a 2D view.
  • You can mine, collect and build with the blocks you mine and take yourself. You can then store them, smelt them, enchant them, and pretty much the rest. Your items will be full interactive.
  • There will be the classic minecraft enemies, obviously with different names to suit the server theme. They can attack you and if you die, just like the classic minecraft method, you die and lose all your items.
  • There will only be 4 directions of movement. Left, Right, Up and Down. Up and down will only occur when you are digging up and down from a hole or climbing up and down a ladder.

That's just a general taste on what I want to achieve from this. It's not really a complex idea. The movement system can be twice as simple as usual ones only having 4 directions. The gravity script is already finished since I'm starting to prepare for the development.

It's all going to be one big GMAP, with a background image for night and day. The time of day can change and monsters will appear during a certain time period.

You can gain experience, making your mining and damage increase.

The idea of it all just has a nice spark to it and I have a feeling that it's going to turn out great! I just need some willing volunteers to help me build the damn thing. If anybody would like to help me out, just email me [email protected] or send me a forum PM.
I'm generally looking for graphics artists and coders at this point in time. Thanks!

In other words, You're making a Terraria server.

Nope it's called GrimeCraft. If you guys think grimcraft is a more suitable name then I can change the name. I quite like the ring of GrimeCraft though.

Hell yeah. That's what I'm going for.

Higbey 11-26-2011 10:44 PM

you should probably plan on having layered worlds. like above have a sky city, otherwise the gmap will only be a long narrow strip from west to east (left to right)

That's pretty much what I am planning. It gets darker underground and lighter as you go up. Daytime will influence this.

Sounds like Crafted. Which is Minecraft+Terraria. It's a nice idea. I'm excited to see it finished.

I could probably try to help be GP or PR or whatever they would be, or just spread the word.
Because cake is good.

We aren't currently in need of Police or player support, but if you could spread the word, that would be great.

BroozeB 11-27-2011 12:15 AM

How do you plan to interact with the blocks?

Maikeru 11-27-2011 12:38 AM

If you can't make Lexia, you can't make Grimecraft.
It sounds like Lexia didn't had any progress because no one could code it

Thanks for the moral support. You obviously know nothing about development. If you're going to start a flame war, don't do it on my thread.

Emera, I give you this advice as your friend: don't shoot down every piece of negative criticism you receive.

Good luck with this, looks really cool :).

Kavan 11-27-2011 02:28 AM

Hope you find a good scripter to do this, because you're basically making a game from scratch using GScript.
Have fun! :shy:

I saw hoyt making that. It looked pretty good though.

fp4 11-27-2011 03:08 AM

A Minecraft style pics1 overworld generator would be much cooler than whatever you're planning.

A pure-platform style on Graal would be nice though.

DragonRider 11-27-2011 09:25 AM

Ok, slow down there Emera. I thinking you're having too much on your plate. Two servers at once? Pick one, chip away at it. When you get bored, go do the other server. Don't jump around everywhere.

Don't worry about that. That's something we can code in.

You obviously didn't read the post. It's the same server.

Well, since it looks like we're going ahead with it, here's a video of the platform style movement/gravity system in use. It's nothing special, but it's a start. Clockwork has kindly offered to do out graphics so it looks like we're actual going to get somewhere. We are looking for a dedicated coder to help us out too!

Since we are developing the project, I made an application form for you guys to email to me if you want to apply. No messing around with on-line forms and all that crap. Just do as the document tells you and remember to attach the work in a .zip file for viewing. Thanks!

Beholder 11-27-2011 03:01 PM

Haha, bit of warning, tile updates may not get sent across level boundaries,
But hey, still possible one way or another, I once made an unfinished Cavestory clone in GS1 for the hell of it.

That never popped into my mind but that's a damn good point. Thanks for that man.

Sounds funny. Kind of reminds me on a project Cubical was working on. Not sure if he ever finished it or what exactly he was planning.

I didn't know cubical actually finished projects.

Pop me some access today so I can log on and harass you :)

Katniss 11-27-2011 09:58 PM

Aww I need gold?
Well Chances ruined..
EDIT:
I can still do basic gfxing though for things such as melee and shovels if you need...

Chelterrar 11-27-2011 11:00 PM

Sounds like a great idea Emera, and I would be willing to help with latting or whatever you need :D I'll pm you later :D But keep the project going

It was 100% completed just didn't have any graphics and the ones I made sucked. I let someone take over a month or two later when I met my current girlfriend and they deleted everything to start their own project.

Also yes I did search my name to creep on myself.

Pazx 11-18-2012 04:04 AM

I voted no, but then I realized when Terraria stopped development I had a huge sadface everywhere, so I wish you the best of luck and I'd love to see this come off.

Sungwonc01 11-18-2012 07:05 AM

Was this abandoned? Why no updates!

PoeticFolly 11-18-2012 07:45 AM

Why not branch away from Graal and start something totally different? I think that would be much more of a success. I hope it goes over well. It's good to see someone's very good talent put to work. :)

Imprint 11-18-2012 04:35 PM

I love how inconsistent you all are with your anger.

Emera 11-18-2012 07:00 PM

Guys, this was ended more than a year ago now I think. I don't understand why Cubical made a reply to a thread this old.

PoeticFolly 11-18-2012 10:09 PM

So... It's all a lie? :'(

Emera 11-20-2012 07:52 PM

Not entirely...

I've just uploaded the backup I had to the server Witchkis. It's open to anybody who wants to come and see.
