Graalonline: The App
Hey guys. I have an idea. So, I kind of have a lot of space taken up on my iphone by Graal Era, Graal Classic, and Graal Zone. What if there was only 1 Graal App, that had all iphone servers? The app would be called "Graalonline". Once you opened it up, you would be able to choose one of the iphone servers you would like to play on. Once you click on a server, you are connected to it and you can play on it normally, just like you would if you had all 3 separate apps.
Having this would probably save space on my iphone (space in folders and of how many gigabytes my iphone can hold). It would be more useful as well. For example, if my friend is on Graalonline Zone or Classic, yet I am on Era, I don't have to go offline Era onto a different app. If I didn't have Graal Classic installed on my iphone yet my friend was on the server, I would just have to restart the application instead of downloading Graal Classic, which would take up space. |
That's interesting 0.0

A centralized login server for iPhones has already been discussed and rejected.

That is interesting, but i think that the amount of memory would be same.

I was thinking of creating a PC server with all different times, the times would be represented with islands. So say an island for past (classic), modern (iEra) and future (iZone). The players could mix on a main island and fight to take bases and PK. You would buy everything you needed for your character on your island.
Everything would needed to be balanced of coarse because classic would be nothing. |

With the way Graal Online works, this would not save much space for people at all. Assets are downloaded as you need them(IE someone has a hat you haven't been near before, it downloads it, or a new level/sound). The actual raw size of the app (<20MB) is nothing compared to how big it gets after you've downloaded a lot of content.
If your phone is low on space, try reinstalling one of the Graal apps. This may cause you to lag a little at first sice you need to redownload images as you see them(thus increasing data usage too if you are limited), but it clears a lot of stuff you have saved. For example, Graal Classic takes like 20 MB upon the initial download. As I continued playing, stuff gets downloaded and now it uses over 500 MB. |
Most of the space taken up by Graal games is from custom files (eg. heads, shields). The actual app itself only occupies around 25MB.
I am currently working on a method to save space whereby all Graal apps on my device share the same, unified folder for custom files while retaining their original states as three separate apps. |
I prefer having a collection of the individual games

Doesn't iOS let you clear memory for apps in settings? No need to delete and reinstall. |

I wish graal would implement a simple image duplicate detection. All you need to do is md5 the image file and check if the md5 is the same. Would save a lot of space imo
|
Would be nice if custom files were cached and then cleared when you close the app.

Well, now that I think about it, its not so much about the space. For me, its mostly that I really only play Graalonline Era, and when my friends are on Zone or Classic and want me on, I have to redownload them from the appstore. If I always kept them on my iphone, it would take up room I could use for something else. Also, it would save space in my folders.

Though it might be good if somehow the app automatically cleared actually obsolete files. |
ya playmesh had this with some of their apps. I would prefer making it one app so that when you look at the map you could jump from server to server. I really don't know if that's possible but it would be nice

creating one app for all 3 servers wont fix your issue. the app itself is very small, its the files which are downloaded taking up the space. so if its cut into 3 apps or all in 1 app, result is still the same (you will only save like probably 2mb because the apps itself will be gone)
|
Solution: get a device with more space, or delete the app/the images of the app via WinSRC, iDevice Manager or iFiles.
|
Another solution: Reinstall the app

The bes solution so far is: use a PC/Mac/Notebook(Laptop) |
