My favs:
Mirai Nikki (this is my no.1 recommended)
Spoiler
This psychological thriller, based on the manga written and illustrated by Sakae Esuno, is about Yuki, a loner who's not very good with people. He prefers to write a diary on his cell phone and talk to his imaginary friend, Deus Ex Machina – The God of Time and Space. However, Yuki soon learns that Deus is more than a figment of his imagination when he makes Yuki participate in a battle royale with eleven others. The contestants are given special diaries that can predict the future, each diary possessing unique features that give it both advantages and disadvantages. Within the next 90 days, the contestants must try to survive until there is only one left standing. The winner will become the new God of Time and Space.

Blue exorcist <-Omg also best ever
Spoiler
his world consists of two dimensions joined as one, like a mirror. The first is the world in which the humans live, Assiah. The other is the world of demons, Gehenna. Ordinarily, travel between the two, and indeed any kind of contact between the two, is impossible. However the demons can pass over into this world by possessing anything that exist within it. Satan the god of demons, but there's one thing that he doesn't have, and that's a substance in the human world that is powerful enough to contain him!! For that purpose he created Rin, his son from a human woman, but will his son agree to his plans? Or will he become something else...? An exorcist?

Angel Beats < - By Key. If you're going to watch it, get some tissues.
Spoiler
Otonashi awakens only to learn he is dead. A rifle-toting girl named Yuri explains that they are in the afterlife, and Otonashi realizes the only thing he can remember about himself is his name. Yuri tells him that she leads the Shinda Sekai Sensen (Afterlife Battlefront) and wages war against a girl named Tenshi. Unable to believe Yuri's claims that Tenshi is evil, Otonashi attempts to speak with her, but the encounter doesn't go as he intended.

Otonashi decides to join the SSS and battle Tenshi, but he finds himself oddly drawn to her. While trying to regain his memories and understand Tenshi, he gradually unravels the mysteries of the afterlife.

Name your No.1 anime with a good storyline and a good protagonist. Something like death note will be good also something like Bleach.

Keeluah 04-23-2013 05:45 AM

Guilty Crown has to be my Number 1 favorite:
Spoiler
The story takes place in Tokyo in 2039, after the outbreak of the "Apocalypse Virus" during what became known as the "Lost Christmas" of 2029. Since then, Japan has been under the control of the multinational organization called GHQ.

Ouma Shu is a 17 year-old boy who mistakenly obtains a rare and great power. He can use this power, "The Right Hand of the King," to extract "voids," or tools/weapons that are the manifestations of peoples' hearts.

He has been rather shy since a childhood tragedy, but both his personality and life change forever when he meets a girl named Yuzuriha Inori, a member of the rebel group called "Undertakers," whose members seek the restoration of self-government in Japan via the ousting of GHQ.

I don't know, I mean
Spoiler
Yuno stalked Yukki, his parents divorced, his dad killed his mum, his dad got killed by the 12th, he was a 'bystander', he killed his friends because Yuno brainwashed him.... it's a messed up world. I personally hate MuruMuru 1.There are way too many of her 2.She changed the game 50 times. 3.She just annoys me too much.My personal favorite is the 9th. Go terrorists!

Indeed I did. I had not seen them in a forever when I was making the list, but I do remember loving all of them. Elfen Lied is good, but I wasn't expecting so much gore when I watched it (especially with little kids getting killed gruesomely). Code Geass I thought was amazing. There wasn't anything I didn't like about that anime.

Keeluah 04-23-2013 11:52 PM

The following recommendation is for funzz.

I also recommend watching School Days, even if you do not like the first few episodes watching till the very last episode is worth it. That ending...

Spoiler
Now, if you actually watched this and kept clicking not thinking it is a troll you are correct. I found the ending very worthwhile because it impacts on how cheating on your GF/BF is bad. The main character was a big pain making you always facepalm and once he died it was pretty shocking. In the end it was nice to see how the girl that killed him reacted when his last words was his name. Plus thumbs up for that nice boat ;)
Spoiler
BTW read the title of this post, I wouldn't totally recommend this as it has one of the most hated main character :/

I recommend (since most of you said the one I was about to recommend) Devil Survivor 2 The Animation

Dusty 04-24-2013 03:32 AM

Full Metal Alchemist, probably Brotherhood version(though I never felt anything was wrong with the original even though I've read the manga. It creates its own plot and it's a pretty decent one).

Fairytail and Hunter x Hunter is pretty good

haruka 04-27-2013 08:05 AM

I stopped watching Monster just to see what Angel Beats was like. I definitely don't regret it. If you have spare time, I suggest you watch it since it is a relatively short series. (13 episodes and an OVA)

Is Monster good? It's recommended for people who like Death Note apparently.
People say the manga is a masterpiece and the anime is good too. I also heard they're making it an HBO live series too so it can't be that bad.

I just need an opinion before I dive into the 70+episodees.

haruka 04-29-2013 10:55 AM

Death Note and Monster are two totally different animes, although they do share very similar aspects. We have our protagonist, and out antagonist; both of which aspire very different beliefs and opinions. You might find this quite similar to the rivalry of L and Yagami, as the air between both character's are more similar than you think.

I paused the series at episode 20ish, so I can't give as much detail as you probably would've liked. Nevertheless, I suggest you give Monster a shot. Overall, Monster has a solid storyline and character development, and you get something new every episode. Although you may get lost if you don't follow along carefully! :)

Tyler 04-29-2013 04:47 PM

My sister recommended Persona 4 to me recently. I'm still currently watching it, but I think it's really good so far.

Rufus 04-29-2013 05:26 PM

I watched Monster quite a few years ago and its a long series but it has no filler. I enjoyed it.

Jerln 04-29-2013 06:09 PM

Geez, anime. Hmm.

Does Teen Titans count? No, not that goofy new one, the good one that got cancelled.

Rexx 04-29-2013 06:25 PM

Cool I think I'll watch it then.
I like these kind of anime not the goofy anime meant for 12 year old girls that some of you watch.

Remorse 04-29-2013 08:10 PM

Ultimate muscle.

haruka 04-30-2013 03:02 PM

Ano Hana's pretty chill. Just finished watching it, and I could definitely relate to some of the characters. The ending was a bit strange though; it seemed like an act to get the viewer to shed tears, and it seemed really forced.

Short series of only 11 episodes, if you've got time on your hands check it out.

Winter 04-30-2013 09:53 PM

Too many people talking about Elfen Lied, Death Note, FMA, Code Geass, Monster, HSOTD, School Days, and some others... I like them too, but if you like any of the shows mentioned in this thread, you'd like Darker than Black. The first season is worlds better than the second, though.Dark, action, supernatural, and clever. I don't want to give much away about the plot, but the fighting scenes are very well thought out and unique compared to other action anime. Loads of sad moments and deaths, and not too much filler. The filler isn't bad though, and is not totally separate from the plot in the end. 26 episodes total.

Hei x Yin 4 life btw

Also, I want to find time to watch this new one called Psycho-Pass that just finished last month. Sci-fi thriller, sounds pretty cool after reading the wikipedia page.

Ph8 04-30-2013 10:33 PM

Someone has mentioned pretty much everything I've ever liked except for...

Another

Only horror anime I've ever seen. Don't watch if you mind people dying in gruesome ways.

Prince of tennis shall forever hold a place in my heart too.

Another

I liked Another. It had a pretty neat connection to the history of the school and characters, and fit together like a well-designed puzzle. Ph8, if you liked Another, watch Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni. It remains one of my favorites, and season two isn't too bad either. It gets a restart this year and its audience is growing, so watch the original soon before time runs out!

Very creepy, very confusing. Each main character goes crazy and kills all the others, often ending with themselves. This plot is played out over and over again, with small differences each time that lead up to complete separate endings. After a while, you start to piece things together and come up with assumptions and conclusions to the main plot. Who is the killer? What is the motivation, and what is the significance of the same event coming to similar, yet different endings each time? Most of all, don't read spoilers for this! It just gets better and better, and you'll be killing off that great experience by reading spoilers. Also, I believe it to be much more disturbing than Another, to be honest.

Dusty 04-30-2013 11:26 PM

Not exactly Anime, but it was heavily influenced by it: Avatar: The Last Airbender and its sequel(ongoing) Legend of Korra.

Agreed. My sister got me watching that one and I really liked it.

I just finished Persona 4 and I thought it was great. The only thing I wish was a tiny different was the ending, but it didn't bother me all that much. I'm also interested in this anime coming out in July called "Free!". The preview itself didn't draw me in, but the concept of it being a swimming anime sounds cool. I tried a basketball anime called "Kuroko No Basket" (very good by the way) and I really enjoyed that one so hopefully I'll enjoy another sport one as well.
