What has GraalOnline been to you?

I'd like to take a moment and really describe what GraalOnline has been to ME personally, for three years of my life.. My "life" on GraalOnline has been a bit of a secret, letting only a few people even know I play it. I usually shy away from asking friends I know in real life to play. There has only been one instance were someone on GraalOnline, actually lived where I did and eventually we met up and became pals. But GraalOnline in general; since I was thirteen up until now, being sixteen. It has been almost like an escape from my real world troubles, something to indulge in "after hours" if you will. Somewhere I know there will always bee someone to talk too. Maybe it sounds cheesy, but I've made some real friends on GraalOnline. Some I've even shared my personal life with.

So, I'm curious.. Like the title ask's, what is GraalOnline to you?

Nothing more than a game to pass the time. Nothing too serious. Only played it for about a year and a half and then I got bored.
Mostly a disappointment though.

Slush* 03-28-2013 12:33 AM

When I was 11 my friend showed me graalclassic and right away I was hooked. You could have even said I was addicted to graal. That year in school I did awful so I stopped for about a month and went back on and I was hooked again but this time I was smart about how long I played. I have made so many friends because of this game and im glad I came back on. But now its gone a bit downhill just because ive done everything just waitin for something new to do.

Rexx 03-28-2013 12:50 AM

Graal saved me from suicide...I had no friends, I was lonely...but Graal was always there for me.

...roflmao.

Blueh 03-28-2013 12:51 AM

Graal's been more like a more efficient form of birth control if you ask me.

The Doctor 03-28-2013 01:13 AM

I love it. The community, for that matter. I try to take a break from it, but I cannot leave the friends I make in the game.

Then why do you post on a forum dedicated for the game?

I'm not saying it couldn't be better, but I am saying that your pessimistic attitude could be.

Jester Lapse 03-28-2013 01:28 AM

Let me clarify, Mattkan is a disappointment.

fp4 03-28-2013 01:32 AM

Masochistic.

It's been fun though, I've learned a lot from my time spent on it, and I've made a few good friends from it.

Pimpsy G. 03-28-2013 01:39 AM

An unhealthy escape from life's problems that literally made me lose touch with reality in all respects. Honestly at one point it entirely replaced every ounce of my social life for over a year. It wasn't just my "after hours hobby", it was everything outside of school. 8+ hours a day (NOTE: that number includes graalonline, graal facebook, graphical development, skype with graal friends, and graalians.com. I view all extensions of the graal communitiy as a part of 'graal'.).... still recovering

iHot 03-28-2013 01:50 AM

Graal is most likely something I will never forget about. I find myself going on every few days sometimes even a week without it. I come on these forums a lot more often. But I've met many people, shared many laughs and bought many many hats. For that I thank Graal, and besides the fact that it has taken up a few years of my life and effected my grades a bit I wouldn't have it any other way.

I will never, ever, forget graal. Graal is one of the most social games I've ever played. I've even met a girl who lives in the same city as me (and if you knew where I'd lived, you'd be like "no way!"), and we met up and are besties now :D I play graal for around 10-20 hours a day (lol) and when I tell my friends at school that, they're like "You're so anti-social and a video game freak! Why do you spend 15 hours on average on a GAME?!".
That game, is like my second world and helps me get out of reality when my life isn't going so well. Especially when I was having a fallout with my friends last year, I felt like I wasn't alone because I had my family guild VEXOS. VEXOS is like my second family!
I would be way different if I didn't discover graal. It was on the genius section of the app store (Thank you Genius section). I would never do pixel art, never realize that my graal bestie irl and in game had a best friend who now goes to my school, and meet all the amazing people in the graal that I am proud to know now :)
Whoever came up with graal, you have changed my life.

Blueh 03-28-2013 08:20 AM

15 hours a day? O_o do you sleep?

iDanielLeader 03-28-2013 08:42 AM

I have 6800 hours on era and 3200 on classic
I am adicted

iDylan 03-28-2013 09:33 AM

Graal used to be a major addiction for me. With alot of forcing i was able to stop the addiction and quit iClassic. Since PC servers are way less addicting and don't have a big community, i went there. I play Graal because i don't play any other games, i need something to do in my spare time.

I grew up with Graal. Became addicted once moving to the iServers....surprisingly. Moved back to PC 'bout a year ago. Got into development. I really only stay for the friends that I've gained, and the love of developing the game I grew up loving. I'm slowly drifting though.

kms 03-29-2013 04:42 AM

I can't help but smile at some of these posts, I have a feeling a lot of you find explaining this cheesy, or silly. But it's just proof that something that's "just a game" has some real effects. Real relationships are made, real feelings and attachments are developed. It's kind of cool hearing everyones story.

It gets old when everybody focuses on the negatives of this game. Sure, the game could be improved, but we're all here posting thousands of posts for a game that we like, so surely all of our posts don't need to be so negative.

Jester Lapse 03-29-2013 09:55 PM

The question is "what has Graal been to you" and it has been a disappointment for me. Did I say the game was terrible? No. Only disappointing especially when you look at zone and you know that plans that were had, but Stefan keeps such a tight leash. I am pretty sure disappointment is not a negative thing seeing as you had to have faith at some point to feel disappointment. But alas, you always have something to say about my posts don't you? :)

Kavan 03-29-2013 10:22 PM

Graal's been a fun wee experience. I'd met some pretty great people of which I barely talk to anymore, which in a way is kind of sad because I really liked them.

Yes, I miss the banter with you guys.

On the other hand though, it was my first introduction to programming, something which I really enjoy and have been doing since I was 13. Hopefully, I'll be setting up my own game development company soon enough should everything go to plan so I suppose I have Graal to thank for that, so yeah, that's what Graal is to me.

Oh god, I'm getting all nostalgic and sentimental...

Yes, I understand that Graal could be better. Believe me. I'm not trying to attack you, I'm just saying that one of the ways that we as its players could make it better is by being a bit more positive. Graal's also been a disappointment to me, but it's been much, much more than that, and I'm sure you can say the same :).

HON3Y BADG3R 03-30-2013 08:53 AM

Graal is another world full of creeps, perverts, and friends.

But I like it.

You never die. You can explore forever. The game always changes.

From starting in 2009 and taking breaks every 6 months and such it has opened a new world up for me.

My best friend played graal.

It taught me how to be street smart

It taught me leadership.

It brought me into gfx (doing a front of a head in my free time, teaching myself)

It taught me how I can create a game.

It showed me that there are people who are so stupid.

It showed me new friends, games, and life lessons.

Overall though..
Graal was fun.

I have decided to quit for now. I became addicted to it so I'm taking a break.

Yephenpeace 03-30-2013 02:21 PM

Cute thread.

I was pretty obsessed with it for the first two years of playing. I met a lot of really cool people, and I had a lot of fun while playing the unhealthy amount of time I did. Unlike a lot of you, I can't really say I've gained too much from it. Just some interesting memories. It's kind of strange, but it had a nice vibe that was much different than real life. That was basically the main appeal for me.

Yes, most of that was past-tense. I still enjoy the game every now and then, but I'm not nearly as active as I was before. It's cool to see the game go through so many changes though, and it's cool to see the community grow over time. Overall, I think my positive experiences from this game outweigh the negative.

Yes, I'll be right back I gotta afk a few more hours to get into this place...

Rockson 04-01-2013 04:20 AM

To me, graal started as a hobby. Then I was addicted for about a year, in which I got involved on the PC, learned to Dev, and found out what I wanted to do after high school. This summer I'll be going to college to study game development, all because of graal online's influence on my life. I could say I lost a lot of social life because of the game, but I made a lot of good friends through graal. Overall it's had more of a good impact on my life.
