Pokemon X and Pokemon Y

Going to be AMAZING

Vyruss 01-08-2013 12:17 PM

Yeah really looking forward to this one. Glad they are finally making the entire game 3D. Just bought a 3DS XL few weeks ago too, so I'm definitely ready!

Says they are releasing it in October for a simultaneous worldwide release which is nice too!

The XL was released just this past July/August (of 2012) while the original 3DS was released in 2010. Like the original DS phat to DS Lite, and then DSi, Nintendo seems to be using a 2-3 year release cycle for each handheld console iteration/improvement. So I have a feeling the XL will be the only new handheld we see from Nintendo for a while :p. At this point though any 3DS system seems like it will be supported by Nintendo, and Pokemon for a while :)

Also just realized it looks like they finally ran out of colors for new Pokemon versions considering they are using letters now :p

Ash Ketchum 01-08-2013 01:27 PM

I wanted them to work on a remake on Sapphire and Ruby :/

Same! If Game Freak had kept its usual release cycle when they released Black 2 and White 2.

Trakan 01-08-2013 04:58 PM

Need on Wii u... with the gamepad *q*

Admiral 01-08-2013 07:00 PM

Looks amazing. Sadly I cant afford the 3DS XL. :c

Jester Lapse 01-08-2013 09:21 PM

Looks dumb. With every passing generation the pokemon get uglier and uglier. Only way I am buying this is for the Jigglypuffs.

Also from the trailer, the battle still seems to be still the same and not exactly "3D"

"Nintendo has just announced a worldwide simultaneous release for the first ever 3D Pokemon games, coming to the 3DS in October."

It's almost 10 years old too.

I'm not really sure what all the hype over a "3d" pokemon game is. What's so great about it being 3d? Pokemon Colloseum and Gale of Darkness were 3d, and yeah they were amazing. It isn't like its the first 3d pokemon game.

Not to be a total hyprocrite, but the graphics in the game seem rather rushed. All of the areas seem like they just use an image texture background rather than actually making real 3d scenes via polygons models. The Nintendo 3ds has much more graphic capability than that.

Jester Lapse 01-08-2013 10:43 PM

The only reason this has hype over the other 3D titles is the fact it is pokemon's first 3D RPG title. The other 3D titles barely count as a regular pokemon game. Sure in Gale you walked around, but the focus was on "shadow pokemon" and the selection was very limited. Well those are my thoughts anyways.

I'm pretty sure they said that the images depicted in the trailer were not final. They still have a good 10 months to get it polished up.

Pokemon Colosseum had a full story, same with xd Gale of Darkness. Pokemon Colosseum has as much gameplay as most of the handheld games, and in my opinion it has a better story and atmosphere than the other handheld games.

Pokemon Battle Revolution may be what you're thinking if, it was 3d but there wasn't really much to do. Pokemon Colosseum and Gale of Darkness are fully in depth games with tons of gameplay.

T-10a 01-08-2013 10:53 PM

They also ran out of colours/gems/precious metals for the names of the games. X.x

Skill 01-08-2013 10:58 PM

Also, @jester by 3d battle I think they mean the battles are animated in 3d, so you see actual particle effects for abilities and 3d pokemon models instead of 2d sprites, much like you saw in Colosseum.

Vyruss 01-08-2013 11:00 PM

It's hyped because its the first "main" handheld Pokemon game to actually use full 3D assets versus 2D sprites, and the current pseudo 3D overworld they currently utilize.

Interesting. Well, I guess it is still early to be making any calls. However I can tell you, I might be using a wild pokemon more than my starter.

Dusty 01-08-2013 11:04 PM

Glad they're getting there, but I wish they'd stop with the baby steps. Taking a ****ing chance, you can afford it. Sucks their designs aren't getting any better as well.

Based on the images I saw, it isn't fully 3d assets, nor were the older games fully 2d. many things that should be polygonated models are actually just giant image textures used for things in the distance that they never bothered to create in 3d. Additionally, the level design seems rather faulty, looping similar patterns of textures rather than mixing them up to hide the effect of it.(yes I know the gameplay isn't final, but usually companies will finish development before posting trailers. Additionally, they would only want to show polished content.)

Newer Pokemon games for the ds like black and white started using partially, 3d graphics to enhance the quality and add new functionality, they just never moved the camera angle to creation the impression of 3d.

Yeah, I remember in one of the pokemon games I told my brother to level a flying type pokemon so he could counter a gym, and he ended up leveling it so much that it became his main and his started ended up being like level 40 when his flying type was level 100 xD

The videos I saw gave me the impression that everything was 3D. Check out this
Link http://m.uk.ign.com/articles/2013/01...ing-in-october . The article and quotes from Nintendo as well as the trailer there make it seem like everything is 3D. Could be wrong however. I'd like them to make and release a trailer viewable directly on the 3DS in 3D as that will likely make things more clear.

EDIT: Also in the Gen V games (Black/White) they did change the camera angle on the overworld to create a pseudo sort of 3D world. Definitely more noticeable in some areas than others though.

It is rendered in 3d, it's just that many assets are not fully 3d.

Dusty 01-08-2013 11:20 PM

It looks like it's going the same route as the Black/White games... just more 3D. Same game, same mechanics, and what looks like even the same sort of grid-based movement. Just more 3D than before. Hence my criticism about baby steps.

I mean, with the circle pad, they have no reason not to have full 360 movement. I don't get why they still wont implement that....

failure 01-08-2013 11:28 PM

I don't think it looks very good.
And I have the first model of a DS. So I ain't getting a 3DS.
But my cousin wants me to get it so we can battle.
I doubt it.

Eleven 01-09-2013 01:31 AM

Hope this comes for Wii U or DS lite

Ash Ketchum 01-09-2013 02:03 AM

I don't know why they made an ad for it so early x_x

Maybe it's a money thing to get people ready for the game, looks like it's working.
The game isn't finished yet so don't judge what isn't finished, they where pretty much asking for it, I know but it isn't finished

Nope, the last Pokemon game on the regular DS was black and white 2.

This ones exclusive to the 3DS man

I'm thinking its for 3DS only. They said the series evolves with the consoles and so now the 3DS gets it with support for the normal DSes being dropped :/.

Here's a PNG version of one of the scenes in the video. Looks much nicer and you can see the cell shaded inspiration shining through. I think it looks really nice.

Nothing can make me want to play Pokemon again unless they do a remake of R/S/E

Ah yes agreed! That was definitely my favorite generation of pokemon. I was really hoping that remakes of R/S/E were what they were going to announce today instead of Gen VI.

Remorse 01-09-2013 03:16 AM

I've always disliked the R/S/E games.

With the exception of mudkip y'know

Nintendo's trailer only shows the 3DS. I mean its possible, but in over a decade they have never brought any of the main games to their "home" consoles, only the spin offs of the series. So I would say its unlikely that they will bring it to the Wii U.

Dusty 01-09-2013 04:00 AM

Pretty sure I've read interviews where they have stated specifically that they never intend to bring the main games to console because they're meant to be portable. Silly, but they seem dead set against making it a console game.

Well, it is called "Pocket monsters" in japan...

Ash Ketchum 01-09-2013 04:07 AM

Maybe, but absolutely nothing about Pokemon is geared towards portable play. The only thing that makes it a pick-up-and-play game is the fact that you can save at absolutely any time out of battle.

Never really a reason to sell a console. You don't really get back nearly enough to justify it. May as well keep it and occasionally find a game you might enjoy on it.
