Jailbreaking a dying trend?

Dev Team is currently stuck on iOS 6.0.1 and says not to expect a jailbreak (untethered) for it any time soon. Pod2G has also said jailbreaking iOS 6 is near impossible. Installous was also completely shut down recently.

What does this mean for jailbreaking or for people who want to jailbreak who are currently stuck on iOS 6?

During the whole jailbreaking era, Android has been getting popular and broke through with major success thanks to the Galaxy S3.
I'm just wondering, why go through the hassle of jailbreaking when there's Android that's already open to anything offered by Cydia and more when rooted. Definitely not helping the case for jailbreaking an iDevice.

Also, whether people will admit it or not, pirating apps from Installous was a big factor in whether they wanted to jailbreak or not.
I can see developers losing faith and support for their apps/tweaks/whatever on Cydia if a new jailbreak isn't developed soon.

Obviously if you don't care about jailbreaking then it won't matter to you whether it dies or not, you'll still be happy with your Apple device :)

It's all about dat cheat engine

Jester Lapse 01-02-2013 09:52 AM

I jailbroke for the GBA Emulator tbh

Rexx 01-02-2013 09:57 AM

Well I wanted to jailbreak my iPhone for Installous, the emulator, and sbsettings.
I'm stuck on iOS 6....only a month before I can get my new phone T-T torture.

mugayer 01-02-2013 10:07 AM

I'm nothing without my jailbreak i like it how u can customize your ipad but the dev's are still stuck on the A5 prosessors.

BearClassic 01-02-2013 10:07 AM

If you want to jailbreak, most people downgrade to 4.2.1 as thatbwas the most popular OS to jailbreak on. And you can get most of the stuff that is on iOS6 when yoyu jailbreak anyway :-)

Snimppa 01-02-2013 11:31 AM

Meh, shutting down installous doesn't bother me at all.
iAP cracker is big enough of a reason to jailbreak.
Free game in app purchases ftw

I jailbroke for the iFile..jk!

Emera 01-02-2013 01:37 PM

I used to jailbreak all of my devices simply because I wanted to pirate apps from Installous and get my hands on iFile, but considering the level of effort you have to put in to jailbreak it, and the time the developers are taking to come up with new jailbreaks it's not really worth the hassle anymore in my opinion. I've stopped jailbreaking my devices.

Psycher! 01-02-2013 08:48 PM

>Installous shut down

WHAT.

Tyler 01-02-2013 10:07 PM

I just buy all my apps. I mainly use jailbreak for the tweaks. Except, I haven't jailbroken my iPod Touch 4G and it's on 5.1 and I really don't know if I want to jailbreak it anymore. I think it drained the life out of my other iPod.

Admiral 01-02-2013 10:22 PM

All the tweaks and stuff took up a huge amount of memory anyway..

Like Jester, I only jailbroke for the GBA Emulator as well. If GPSPhone dies then so does jb.

V. 01-02-2013 10:27 PM

I jailbroke my old device since I could use backgrounder, now that my new iTouch 4 has multi tasking, that isn't needed anymore.

Psycher! 01-02-2013 10:33 PM

I jailbroke my phone for two reasons. The tweaks that made things generally easier, and Installous. Now that Installous has been shut down, most of my reason for jailbreaking is gone. :'(

The Doctor 01-03-2013 12:22 AM

I don't like pirating. It's illegal first of all, and the developers who take time to make the app don't get a profit from those who pirate. By the way, go Android!

The reason I use jailbreak is for iFile and SBSettings. That's it. I can make a quick site in iFile using HTML :)

MementoJoker 01-03-2013 12:37 AM

Installous got shut down? *cries*

After I get my Note II, I might sell my iPad...over half the apps on it are pirated lol.
Plus I don't like the idea of having apps on iTunes AND Google Play and them not being compatible between devices.

Crono 01-03-2013 02:20 PM

was never really a "trend", it's there for practical reasons. the demand for it may vary but that's different.

iHot 01-03-2013 06:32 PM

To me it seemed more popular a couple years ago when geohot was in the spotlight.

i think that some of the functionality you got from jailbreaking has been slowly getting added to the default iOS. for example (i didnt own an iphone before 2010 so i wouldnt know) internet tethering was a jailbreak thing that trickled down into standard iOS features from iPhone 4 and onwards.

RicardoKills 01-04-2013 06:09 AM

Good bye free apps :( ^

Kyle Kol 01-05-2013 05:49 AM

The only thing I find myself not being able to do on android that I did on a jailbroken iDevice is screencast. I have to root my android phone to use a screencaster and since it's a phone I don't wanna void the warranty DX

Billy 01-05-2013 07:04 AM

Yup,Installous was shut down..*5 Minutes later* Downloads Appvv(vShare) and It's better than Installous.

I'm never updating :P

I will probably update my iPod 4 to iOS 6, now when Installous isn't working anymore. Our family iPad 2 is getting updated, so I don't mind doing it too.

Pretty sure the warranty is un-void if you restore your device. That is if you can use your device. Plus, the warranty only lasts a year. I usually jailbreak near winter, since I got my device in Christmas.

Oh, and since iFunbox has arrived, I don't really see the point in
jailbreaking.
Actually, there's themes, general customisation I couldn't do before, free DLC and apps, and free WiFi.
MyWi never worked for me, strange.

Installous? Pfft... Try AppCake (alternative as Intallous) or Appvv... Ya know you can google iPad IPA's and install them on iFile for crying out loud ._.

Rexx 01-09-2013 02:11 AM

All that crap is just a huge headache.
In the end I would just pay for the app instead of going through all that trouble.
Plus its an even bigger pain in the ass to update the apps.

No?
How to get Intallous :
Cydia -> Intallous.
How to get AppCake :
Cydia -> AppCake.
And there is a simple update button in there. Ain't my job if you're lazy.

Not really a legit argument since you can pirate apps on android too.

Installous is gone.
Appcake sucks, missing a lot of apps and a lot of the links lead to nothing and if there is a working link its slow as hell.

Also how about that iFile method, how does that work? Just curious.

MementoJoker 01-09-2013 12:03 PM

vShare is pretty neat. I downloaded PvZ's IPA file then added it manually.

If you google an IPA, you can extract an archives and send it to any installer app you want. It's more of an manual thing if you're missing apps.

TarePanda 01-11-2013 12:48 AM

Lol there is like 3 other Alternatives to installous :P nubs

YouTube.Com/TarePandaHelp I have a video showing how to install GraalOnline Zone+ for free manually through iFile. It's extremely easy.

Vshare is perfect! even though it's in Chinese, it's common sense on how to install an app. And when your app needs to update all you do is click the update button and it updates right there without the wait! far more easier ......

Same with android btw, as a system.

There is a jailbreak for iOS 6. It's not a untethered one though, so you have to hook it up to a computer. PLUS they probobly will have what i need when the time they stop supporting mine

But im not getting another apple iDevice. I'm going with an alternative that doesnt stop supporting my devices to make me get the newist versions

And that jailbreak only supports A4 devices, so its impossible to jailbreak the new iPhone or iPad at all.

Yes it's legit. The team's Twitter which is composed of @pimskeks @planetbeing @pod2g and @MuscleNerd, and a quick glance of MuscleNerd's tweets confirms it's their doing. It's currently rumored to be scheduled for release on Sunday.

Ah very nice.
That's too bad because I'm getting the Note 2 tomorrow and I'm selling my iPad 2 to my aunt. I guess I can give it a whirl on my 3GS..
