Best Friend Expelled

You read the title. Its pissing me off. What a creative way to ruin a childs Christmas.

My best friend was expelled today. His parents could not afford the expensive tuition for this snobby private school. The headmaster gets 15k a year from each of the 500 students. Thats a lot of money. Enough money to allow 1 kid to stay in for the rest of the year?

All the students pretty much hate our headmaster for BS like this. My friend was a friend to everyone in the school, so this is just horrible. He was leaving next year anyway. What should I do?

Emera 12-17-2012 07:43 PM

He was thrown out because he couldn't pay? There's nothing you can do to be honest.

I just cant take this. I have other friends, but this one was just unique. The outrageous sum of total money recieved for all the students just makes me think he could let him stay just for the rest of the semester at least.

Go to public school :P

Not the end of the world. You can still meet him out of school.
Most of my friends are from the club anyway.

What Emera said, it's true.

But I don't see why you can't meet him outside of school...

Well it's private school, of course money is a factor. I'm not trying to be mean or anything but private school is pretty much known as "schools you pay a lot of money to attend." So if you can't afford it, it's no surprise you're not going to be able to go.

Also you can say "he gets 15k from each of the 500 students every year" to make it seem like he's pocketing it all, but he's not. He has to pay the salary of each faculty member and then pay the expenses of everything at the school. That's why private schools cost a lot, because they don't get the kind of funding public schools get. Now I'm not saying this headmaster isn't doing well financially, but he's not pocketing the entire tuition of every student each year; he's probably not living in some mansion.

Also, did said student's parents try talking to the headmaster and arranging something? Or did they just not pay and let whatever happened, happen? Students who make the school look good are a benefit to the school(ie when they go off to a good college or they do things in the world, people will trace him back to said school and the school can say "Ya, Bob went here. We helped him get to where he was." But if he was just a popular kid that doesn't necessarily mean he was a positive addition to the school. In public school many popular kids/well-liked kids are assholes.

On the otherhand I will dwelve deep down to my inner-child and ya, this **** sucks. It sucks being separated from friends and it probably sucks for the kid to be ripped from a familiar setting. It's hard for me to sympathize with kids who go to private schools considering the cost and the fact I was raised in a family with little money in a tough area in pretty ****ty public schools, but I know it's hard to look past the fact that most kids in school look towards friends to get through a school day.

you'll forget all about when your parents give u a new bmw for your first car.

Higbey 12-17-2012 09:55 PM

you could try resorting to something less legal if you wish to get your friend back into the school. but most dont have the guts to go through with it...

Rexx 12-18-2012 12:16 AM

Why would he go to a private school if he can't afford it?
Kind of a derpy situation and its hard for me to be sympathetic on this one.

Sounds like he could afford it... For a while. Maybe they had sudden financial issues; not uncommon in the economy today.

public schools ftw.

Maxy 12-18-2012 02:54 PM

private schools ftw

KoF 12-18-2012 03:48 PM

Private schools are good. Some families can't pay through 4 years of high school.

Blueh 12-18-2012 05:49 PM

15k? Holy crap lol...

Tyler 12-18-2012 09:15 PM

That money should be going for college. Not a private school. There's nothing wrong with public schools. It might work out better for him if he chose that option.

Talon 12-18-2012 10:19 PM

He can't make one-time exceptions for your friend because it will set a precedent in future cases (such as George Washington's two terms setting the precedent for future presidents ) and cause a continuation problem. Anyway I don't really see the point in a private school, as 15,000 a year for high school is really unnecessary and should be headed towards a college fund instead.

Well, sorry anyway.
