Ventus's GFX
3 Attachment(s)
So I just started reading tutorials this past week, as I wish to use my imagination using pixels, critique is appreciated as I wish to improve.
If anyone has a request just ask, and I'll try my best at it. Requests can be limited so I'm not overwhelmed. Here is a Poke' ball I made "used jesters tutorial" and here is a Hat I am working on currently. Attachment 7741 Attachment 7743 |
Nice pokeball. :) The hat is weird to me, Idk, it might be just me though otherwise it looks fine.

Can you make a Daft Punk themed helmet? Just look in google images if you don't know what it is.

Just remember, as in the picture, their helmets are super shiny. |

Maybe try instead of using pure white, use very light versions of the surrounding colors that blend into white. And of course, the shine should correspond with the light source VS the shape.

Ok here is what I have currently, I am still not sure as to how I can get a glass shine effect, if anyone has a tutorial or can help me just send a pm.
Attachment 7750 |
Just use a bright shade of the color then surround it by slightly darker or way darker shades depending on the amount of shine you want. Tutorials will only get you so far, some things you have to learn by studying other peoples work and trying it yourself :)
Also, great start on your pixel art journey! |

I hereby challenge you to make this. As a lightsaber style sword.

Looks good. However, it seems to me that your GFX is smallish on scale. Idk if you're doing this on purpose. If so never mind.
On the helmet, it's fine to make a shine effect, but as in the picture... The light is coming from the side. On the rounded visor, a shine is located where the light is coming from. So, you wouldn't have that striped look you have made. Looking at different types of light sources and their effects on different surfaces/substances may help you. Also, your hats look a little flat. Work on your depth a little bit. In addition to that, unless your light source is coming from the front, you shouldn't pillow shade. Aka: the yellow on the helmet. Using different light sources can completely change the look of your graphic. |

I figured the scale wouldn't allow the chackram but it doesn't matter, use it for whatever you wish. |

Looks cool. I really like the angled shading. I love FF. Especially seven and eight.

Swords shading could be done a little better but at least you've put in good contrast to it.

Because I know you were trying to make a buster sword, I know what the actual volume of the object is supposed to be. Like a squarish slab of metal. The way you shaded shows that the volume or shape of the object is something else which would be perfectly fine if it wasn't supposed to be a buster sword modelled after FF7 which already has a defined volume its supposed to be. Notice how mines feel a lot more squarish than yours but also has enough depth/"popping out" to it.

Another example of volume shading.

Well, I'm not sure how to particularly explain Volume. It's something you try your best to define. Like how can I make the shades pop the object out rather than the outline. The 2nd sword is what I interpret the volume of the object to be based on your initial sword.
The good thing about your first sword was that it DID define some kind of volume. The initial issue I had with it was that it didn't follow the "squarish feel to it" Yours felt as if the middle meaty part of the blade kinda pointed out towards. Anyway, the only issue with the volume of your first sword was the top and the bottom part of the metal. Am I making things any clearer? |

I need ideas my imagination tank is on empty currently, I plan on working on gimp all day tomorrow when I wake up so fire away!

You should make a cigarette .gif and submit it as a hat.
Glowing embers and wavering smoke. |

9am-12:50pm done Attachment 7933 I'm sad that only 4 or 5 people have bothered to say anything thus far. Don't be shy. |
Looks good. :D I wish I had gimp.
Snk, please add this. I wan't to wield a gun and puff, like the app icon. There some strange effects going on with it, I realized just now... |

I could always submit it to rufus, but nothing has been added there in ages. |
Looks good lol. Don't you think the cigarette is a bit too small though?
