you tell them Doc
you will be getting a rep once i figure out how to do it :D

a private msg to correct grammar would be more appropriate than public humiliation

If we won't do it, who will? We're actually helping them to develop their grammar... That's a good thing, right?

There’s nothing wrong with correcting someones grammar the problem is the way you do it. Like I said a pvt msg would be the right way to do it and not by humiliating him in public where everyone can see it.

Well, it they would just use proper grammar you wouldn't have to "humiliate" them, (I don't see it as humiliating..) but if you wouldn't say anything I'm pretty sure the mistakes made in posts would greatly increase..

It's not humiliation it's derailing a whole thread over a damn comma.

You have two different ideas in your sentence without an appropriate conjunction! I think you should use one of those "damn commas" or maybe a semicolon.

Seriously, if you understand what the person is saying, there is absolutely no need to correct them. It's just annoying.

I think that would be more productive to the community than your constant negative posts.
The other day I was wondering why Talon was so mean and I thought maybe she didn’t have friends. So being the nice guy that I am I went ahead and got you a gift. I got you a pretty hand bag in appreciation of our future friendship.

That’s because everyone likes you and if they correct you its in a polite manner. Even I like you and I don’t know you. (the real life noob costume was pretty epic)

Wait, are you a girl!?

Talon 10-01-2012 05:43 AM

Hmm. A surprising amount of people think I'm a jerk. I agree that I may seem like one from the feeling of impatience or offense people get from my writing. I think judging me, someone over the internet you've never met face-to-face with is unfair; especially when I write, it's just text. So, people just make up in their head the tone in which I speak in, or my body language. These people probably think of me typing with furrowed brows with my fists angrily pounding on the keyboard, then going outside, beating people up and stealing cars because they picture me as such a jerk - when I'm actually quite friendly in person. But, there are just some people that I just can't ****ing stand, and they're the ones I may seem like a 'jerk' to.

So just ignore me and anything I might say to you, because at the end of the day, I'm some random person on the internet.

Im just messing with you. I just think we got off on the wrong foot. I can appreciate someone that speaks her mind. A lot of people just say what they think the community wants to hear and not what they really feel. But calling me an idiot was a lil mean.
I just don’t think correcting people for every lil mistake is good for the forum.

To be fair on this forum I used to have appalling grammar until Talon kept correcting me and now I use decent grammar when typing.

If they aren't going to bother listening to their teachers they're not going to bother listening to some annoying asshole on the internet. As long as I can comprehent what they're writing why does it matter? I'll probably have a bit of a lower expectation of them but no point wasting mine and everyone elses time pointing out trivial things like spelling.

I like to think of it as by enraging others over trivialities such as punctuation, they'll hopefully do it correctly next time. In a way, grammar trolls and co. are doing the world a service.
