What do you do when your iDevice gets wet?

I got my device all wet and sticky today after some juice spilled on it in my bag.
D: Dun Dun Dun.

It doesn't appear to be totally screwed, but I'm not taking any risks. Right now it's on, has been for the past 20 minutes or so, but it's stuck on start-up. I assume its probably okay, but I'm still worried as there's moisture all underneath the touchy part of my screen.

Has this happened to anyone else before? If so, did it work afterwards?

Emera 09-03-2012 05:37 PM

Dry it.

Chaotic 09-03-2012 05:39 PM

I jumped in the pool with my iPhone. It was fried. I put it in a bag of rice for a week, worked like new.

V. 09-03-2012 05:56 PM

Dry it. Good idea. There's water stuck inside it. It's not really water now, more like moisture, but I'm unsure whether I should sync it or not.

The Doctor 09-03-2012 06:02 PM

idk. but after it works again, i'd send it to specialists who put some coating on it so i don't get wet ever again

Psycher! 09-03-2012 06:30 PM

Putting it in a container with rice normally works. I need to do that to my headphones, since I forgot to take them out of my pocket when at the beach. ._.

V. 09-03-2012 07:04 PM

I'm trying to fix it without my parents knowing it happened. So that rules out the rice tactic. Any other suggestions?

Dusty 09-03-2012 07:09 PM

Turn it off immediately. You're supposed to remove the battery but they don't let you do that so you're SoL. The best thing to do is immediately remove the power source and then let it dry thoroughly to prevent damage. The longer it's powered while being wet the higher the chances of something getting messed up.

Seriously, you can't just grab a cup of rice without them knowing?

Nope.

RaiRai 09-03-2012 07:32 PM

Dry it with something as much as you can, put it in a bag/bowl/box of rice for a week and don't touch it. Hope for the best.

EDIT: nvm fi you cant get rice.

V. 09-03-2012 07:38 PM

There's just a few droplets of moisture on the screen now. Should I wait or try and sync it?
Thanks for helping me, everyone.

Dude don't turn it on. Patience. Turning it back on when it's still wet will just make it worse.

V. 09-03-2012 08:11 PM

Do you have any idea as to how long this waiting will take? I miss my device already.

DragonRider 09-03-2012 08:23 PM

Dude, take a bowl of rice, and put your device in. Where the hell do you parents keep the rice, in an alarm triggered cupboard?

V. 09-03-2012 09:15 PM

Rep for you, sir.

A lot longer(never) if you **** up and turn it on before it's completely dried.

RICE GODDAMNIT RICE I TELL YOU.

That really helps if you put your idevice into rice. But not sure with juice, for water it should work just fine

This happened to my friend once. He looked it up, and it said drench it in windex and wrap it in a paper towel for 2 days, it fries out the juice. Then you leave it in rice for 4-5 days.

Yeah I dropped my iPod in the toilet and put it in a small container of uncooked rice for 2 days than charged it for a day or two straight and than it worked.

Craftz 09-04-2012 02:57 AM

Ok. So if you dont want your parents knowing, put your device in the box of rice and leave it where ever the box normally goes. then make sure your parents dont cook rice for a while. that way its perfectly hidden in a box of rice and no rice goes missing

Psycher! 09-04-2012 02:58 AM

You should still order Chinese.

I don't even want to know what you were doing to cause that in the first place...

Higbey 09-04-2012 05:24 AM

If rice is out, oatmeal, grains, thistle seeds, cuicuis, and sawdust also work, just make sure none get stuck in the connection port.

fsh 09-04-2012 05:48 AM

I left my iPod in my shorts... >washing machine..

Lol water was under screen and whenever I turned it on it asked to Turn off every 6 seconds.

Rice. But idk to do about sticky..

Pazx 09-04-2012 07:45 AM

Rice, then take it outside, then stay outside, because you need some fresh air.

Miner* 09-04-2012 08:58 AM

Just use hair dryer ,than cover it with a blanket and just wait for about 5hour,
Idk if this work because never tried it on idevice but dont waste your rice ,you will need it when you hungry

ZenthorCanavi 09-04-2012 09:16 AM

Just throw it in a fire. Just kidding. Let it dry that's all you can really do considering you can't access any parts of an idevice without a hammer...

Healy 09-04-2012 10:32 AM

Use couscous or pilaf? Maybe add some oregano so your iPod tast— nvm got carried away.

V. 09-04-2012 04:36 PM

Looks a little better today, it's pretty tempting to charge it, as it was on before, while it was wet. I'll wait a few more days then if it won't work ill try rice.
As for going outside, yeah. I'll do that. I'll quit soon, that'll help. Thanks, everyone. :)

That's the worst idea— to wait.

That doesn't work, if you look in the headphone jack the inside should be red if it has taken water damage.

Rufus 09-19-2012 05:26 AM

I heard about the rice trick too. It didn't work for me though; the water was inside of the iPod and the rice was outside.

Tizzee 09-21-2012 10:32 PM

a while back, when i took a bath, i forgot that i had my ipod in my hand, and put it underwater lol
nothin happened

Snimppa 09-23-2012 05:52 PM

I put my iphone in the oven and dry the **** out of it.

Kiko 09-23-2012 05:56 PM

I scream then I sing it lullabyes while drying it with a fresh towel.

moonshine 09-23-2012 06:40 PM

Either tell ur parents and get ur device in a bowl of rice or ruin ur device

MSM 09-23-2012 06:42 PM

Fill a bowl or container with plain, uncooked white rice, then submerge your ipod in the rice and keep it there for 2-3 days. Make sure your ipod is in the middle of the rice, so there is rice on all sides. Also, take your case off.

T-10a 09-28-2012 01:28 AM

Bash the **** out of the guy/girl who pushed me in the pool with it. If it had Graal on it, make him/her have a staring contest with SCP-173. >:3
