You must be talking about US sales, because the X360 is basically dead for the japanese market.
Simply look at the hardware sales by platform:
Here are the weekly sales in the US, X360 haves more sales.
This is simply for the fact japanese people rather to get the japanese console instead of the american console no one cares about on there, is a similar case with the PS3 in the US, but probably less dramatical.

In my opinon both consoles are amazing (and pretty much the "same thing"), if you want to get one just look into the exclusives and go for the ones you are more attracted to.

I like and own both systems, but right now I am leaning towards the PS3. One of the best things (though removed) was being able to put linux on my PS3. Now that it's gone though I still love the fact that I pay for nothing, have a kickass web-browser, and a solid line-up of sony-only games. Now that I have my vita the functionality of my ps3 has been boosted due to the plug n' play feature.

360 is a solid machine with a nice library of games, but it doesn't give you as many features as a PS3 does. In the long run you even end up paying more for it than a PS3. Regardless they both rock.

By the way I suggest you guys get a Vita, it's pretty nice.
Oh and another note, just because the PSN got hacked doesn't mean it's bad. If a hacker, or hackers wants something bad enough then by all means they'll probably be able to get it.

Xbox 360 has alot of indie games something ps3 might or might not have but they have clones of minecraft which is actually coming out this month only for 360.

i have a xbox and to tell you the truth ps3 is way better. It doesnt get the red ring of death, you dont have to pay for online, the graphics for games are unreal. The only reason i have a xbox is because i can play online with my friends :-)

for me it all depends on what games im playing...

Overall both systems are pretty similar, and each have their own features, though none of the systems I own will beat my PC.
