I also doubt there have been 24 sparrers to visit the thread and vote at all, which in actuality then, does not prove your point.

The thing with that is there is overwhelming support from the spar community in specific in favor of this change. That's well known already. Ivy is arguing that there are others outside of that area that are opposed, which is what my post was referring to. I don't blame you for not knowing that part, but a good deal of sparrers have wanted this for a while.

And changing it so we wouldn't have the freedom to express our origin was also completely unecessary.

I can't see how this benefits anyone outside of the spar community

They aren't there to express your origin though! They're there to inform people where you're playing from.

I can think of one benefit off the top of my head. It allows people who don't speak English to identify others who may also speak their language by seeing their country in profile. Previously flags were set to USA by default (at least mine always was).

Have you not even glanced at the votes? Lmao

24 sparrers

Comyt 11-04-2015 10:29 PM

also by "glancing at the votes" you see sardon is in support of keeping the flag option therefore it is a bad idea to go back.

All I know is that if you feel like your privacy is invaded by this update then you'd be upset to know that staff can read through your PMs and anyone with a memory editor can get your personal Facebook URL

It feels like a HUGE violation of my privacy To have a flag automatically chosen for me.
Myself and other use flags of our choice to represent our race. I have no desire to be lumped in with a bunch of other people who have no relation to me.

If we can't at least have what shouldn't have been removed in the first place, then we should have the opinion for no flag at all.

I feel you on this. But this is the 2nd time they have changed the flags, and nobody a dangflabit thing to them the first time

Incorrect - where they currently are. If it was to be used to identify where they are from, the players could choose their flag. I never said anyone had to agree with me, nor did I say everyone else has the same opinion as me. I obviously understood that you and some others think this way is the best way, like I said, I don't need it clearly stated. I just have my opinion because I have a fairly strong sense of nationalism. I understand that some people might have that sense too, and move to another country, but would still identify as their country of origin, hence my opinion.

If we were talking in person, and I asked you where you were from, it would be because we are both in the same location and I understood that you did not originate from our present location. The fact that I am here in the United Kingdom and you could be anywhere makes 'where you are from' where you are-coming-from, from you to me. Unless I had prior context that implied where you are is not where you originated. But you knew what I was saying anyway.

Moreover, the way you presented your post sounded like you were posting facts that I was unaware of. I'm glad we've established that it is your opinion that the flag system as a feature was intended for self-expression. As a staff member, I am telling you that it isn't.

Oh, sorry. Yea I really don't know what's going on around classic really, I log on for news but that's it. What benefit is it to sparrers, though?

It actually does the opposite. If I'm German, and move to America, then people will infer I spea English, when I may only speak German. If I could keep the German flag as my flag, then people would infer I speak German. So in sense, this does the exact opposite of linking players together.

Basically it allows the majority of the community to spot those who use a VPN to lag themselves in spar. This is pretty frowned upon, but since people could set their flags to whatever they wanted, it was hard to catch. Now, say we know someone who claimed they were American with bad internet before, which was why they lagged in a spar. If they're using VPN, we can see the country that they're connecting from, something like Singapore, in order to give themselves more lag. If we know they're American, and they have the Singapore flag in their profile. Boom. Proof right there.

All natural foreign lag is still fine, some people still shame others over that but it can't really be helped.

Some random person on the internet shouldn't be entitled to my location.

I agree, we should at least be given an option to not show a flag

Before I say anything else, I don't even think it should be changed, although I don't think it shouldn't either. I get the purpose of it, it just seems unnecessary in a game such as Graal, which is weird, considering Graal at first thought seems like the perfect game for having your location shown. Now here we go; this is in-game, which implies that there would be context most of the time. I would probably have already been talking to someone if I ask where they're from, which cannot be correctly shown for everyone since it sets your location.

Ash Ketchum 11-04-2015 10:41 PM

"doesn't want to show their location (because they are in a delaycountry) so they don't look like a lagger"

This is what everyone who is opposed to the new update pretty much saying

That effects a small minority though. I imagine starting out not speaking English is very hard, being able to check peoples profiles to see if they are from your country may be helpful.

I disagree with that entirely. When you download the app, you accept that this app can do, and gain access to certain things, one of which is your location. This privacy excuse is exactly what I said - an excuse. It has no basis. I'd rather it show your location than show nothing at all. Especially considering your location is simply a country.
