This season was a ****ing mess, marketing wise. Someone leaked the first 3(or maybe 6?) episodes(in spanish) online before the season even aired. To combat this, Nick decided to rush to air them... so suddenly season 3 was being aired and was only advertised the week before its premier. Predictably, a lot of people weren't even aware season 3 had started(me included).

Since so many episodes were leaked, they were airing back to back episodes every week. Then suddenly they decided to NOT air the episodes on TV at all. Last weeks episode was only available for viewing on their site. I don't know why, but it was stupid as hell.

Basically, huge ****ing disaster and horrible attempts to "fix" them have completely ****ed up the entire season. Sadly this is probably going to reflect Korra pretty poorly, I hope it doesn't jeopardize it being signed on for more seasons :(

Haven't been following the show too much (usually its just 1 or 2 episodes late at night if im in the mood) but I gotta say this show is getting progressively worse, just feels like its dragging on at this point.

Season three is pretty awesome so far.

Dusty 08-08-2014 05:52 PM

Ya, I actually really like season 3. It feels much more like it's getting back to the roots of Last Airbender. Going around the world again makes it feel a lot more different compared to just sitting in Republic City, and the humor is definitely way better this season.

**** their digital only airings >: (

My experience trying to stream tonights episode(spoilers maybe?). Click to fullsize to see what it ACTUALLY looks like on my screen:

HD ez, psh so what if it's illegal. Actually that's a huge problem, but I need HD.

Dat finale doe

Dusty 08-23-2014 07:35 AM

Wow, this show is really depressing... Korra can't seem to catch a break.

I wasn't expecting this series to be this depressing. I knew it was going to be darker from how the first season turned out, but this season, dayum.

I finally finished the second season of this the other day. I think my favorite character of the season was Varrick. He was hilarious.

Spoiler
I don't really agree with Korra's decision though to leave the spirit portals open. Some of the spirits seem pretty evil (e.g. Koh the face stealer).

I really, really liked season 3. Best season of Korra by far. Almost near Avatar: The last airbender levels in my opinion, the only thing holding it back is the rushed pace it has due to only having 13 episodes in a season (Instead of ATLA's 24). The storytelling, the writing, the art, everything was a huge step up from book 2 (The only part of Book 2 I really liked was the wan episodes).

I can't believe season 4 is starting October 3rd, that's way too soon! Like Dusty said, its just a continued extension of their ****ty marketing for the series, and one of the reasons its ratings fell through the roof. Since they are treating the show so horribly, I highly expect this to be the last season in the entire avatar series. Hopefully its even better than the great book 3, if it can pull it off I'd say these last two seasons are on par with the original avatar show!

I'd say the show has dramatically gotten better now. Book 2 mainly was bad because the original season was written as a quick, one off mini series. They had no idea there were going to be more, but when Nick ordered it they had to scramble something together out of a concluded storyline which made for a very awkward and clunky transition. Book 3 doesn't have those problems.

I agree with all of your points Pimpsy! Season 1 of korra wasn't that bad tbh, but it wasn't too exciting either. It was a little too love triangle appealing to teenage girls, but I digress. The whole Amon "you can't kill an idea" concept was on par.

Season 2 was the worst season of Avatar history. Why? There was lots of fan service, (fan service doesn't have to mean sexual). The fan service was definitely not a problem, such as when
Spoiler
they introduced iroh in the spirit world
it was a deep moment.
It sucked because the plot was too intense and the final battle sucked. It was making stuff up as it was going, and the plot was rushed towards the end. The random
Spoiler
korra giant spirit
was the dumbest thing I ever saw on this show.

Season 3 was great. I loved the new sub-bending group and the battles were pretty cool.
Spoiler
I really like the one with them in the metal city. When they were trying to escape with Korra. On a last note, one of the biggest flaws right now is the avatar state. The avatar states power is supposed to come from the avatars past lives as stated in atla episode: The Avatar State. They completely plotholed this because Korra was supposed to lose her connection to her past lives.

No they didn't. Korra lost her past lives... which was just their knowledge and power. The avatar state has nothing to do with her past lives, but the light Spirit Raava. The entire point of "The Beginnings" was to explain all of this. The avatar state comes from Raava, the past lives merely add their knowledge and power to the avatar. Raava is still there, therefor the avatar state still exists. Otherwise how would Wan be able to enter the avatar state, considering the fact he was the one and only avatar(thus no past lives).

I remember reading about the finale of Season 3 and someone mentioned the comparison of Korra's avatar state vs Aang's. They noted that Aang's avatar state was extremely powerful and tactical. Aang was able to use so many high-level techniques(such as the boulder machine guns), which require knowledge of said techniques(like metal bending)... on the other hand Korra's state lacked any kind of finesse, and instead was just raw power. The point is that when Aang entered the avatar state all the knowledge of the past lives contributed their skill and technique, whereas with Korra she had no past lives... thus no knowledge of advanced techniques. Instead since it was just Raava, all she got was a massive boost in bending power.

I see your point, and I guess if one argues that korra was weaker in the Avatar state then it makes sense. There is just a line where Roku is riding with aang with roku on his spirit dragon, and aangs real body is fighting a bunch of earthbenders. While this is happening, Roku explains that the avatar states power comes from all of the past lives, their skills and knowledge all working together at once.

But I actually see your point quite clearly not that I think about it. Korra was very messy in the avatar state almost to the point of it being an embarrassment- while Aang was a god.

Well, he never said it came exclusively from their past lives. Even if what Roku said was contradictory, the point of The Beginnings was to retcon the backstory.
