it's the amount of people the server is having to constantly relay data...I can barely walk on my 2G iPod
that's why it was much smoother back when it was less populated...we are still using the same server that classic iphone started out with and almost no compensation for the much larger population

I agree with you, to an extent.
Because it's not exactly the massive player count causing lag all the time. Not everybody knows this but the server is naturally going to have some lag, even if there was only 1 player online. This is because on the serverside(the server as it appears to the game and the NPCs) is going to be more laggy based on how much lag the NPCs create. Yes most of the lag is player-realated, but not all of it. Plus if I remember correctly back in the old days when only 20 players were online at once, it was still hella laggy. I'm not certain but that was probably caused because we were all using 1g and 2gs, which don't connect the internet as well. I use a 4g right now, but until like 2 months ago I used a 2g, and it changed a lot. I went from 300 ms+ to 60 ms.
EDIT: By the way there are more then 1 servers remember? |
