Have you mother****ers even tried on Dr.dre beats?
Sure, they are overpriced and everyone knows that, but they actually do have very good sound quality and noise isolation.

~A man that has tried way more headphones than you ever will.

MementoJoker 12-29-2012 02:24 PM

I bought nicked Beats for 100. L.E (10 sterling pounds.) They're overrated, but pretty decent, though.

BearClassic 12-29-2012 03:10 PM

I have a pair of solos i got with my phone :-D
And yes, there ok. But there are alot better on the market for cheaper.
Fake beats are usually the same quality, so just buy them :-)

Talon 12-30-2012 08:00 AM

oh my you guys need to listen past bass frequencies, I can by no means tolerate Studios and Solos. They sound like listening through the cotton balls you put in your bleeding ears after listening to Skullcandy Lowriders. Honestly, there is very lackluster depth in the soundstage, no imaging, PRaT lags behind, sub-bass bleeds into the mids, and the treble manages to be grainy and muddled at the same time. Studios have *okay* noise isolation, but any closed-back headphone should (and does).

Yes please talon :-)
Bear.

Hm, okay. Here are some thoughts on the recommended LCD-2/LCD-3

Treble
I like my headphones to present a detailed top end with air and delicacy. This is evident in most all recordings. Live recordings sound just that, live. The acoustic space and pinpoint timing of a Jazz band is reflected in the percussion, ensuring a particularly intimate experience. Is it the most detailed ortho I have heard, no, some of my orthos are damped to *enhance the top end and moving from such an orthodynamic headphone to the LCD2, the initial reduction in top end energy is *noticeable but that feeling is soon replced by a sense of overall balance and enjoyment. I am sure there will be some who
would like a more pronounced top end, this is afterall a selfish hobby which promotes personal preferences but for me, these headphones offer a perfectly balanced sound.
*
Mids
The mids are what particularly stand out for me. They have a rich tonal balance with no loss or emphasis, sound "organic" yet are not boring. They have a richness of tone that very few headphones or speakers redropuce, without sounding "lush". *There is no hint of sibilance and will bring even the toughest logger to his knees if he hears xxx (insert favourite female vocalist here) Not many *headphones reproduce the lower mids well as many headphones have a low mid upper bass bump - this directly impacts on the baritone and can often paint a muddled picture in this department. I listened to an assortment of recordings which focus on the voice within an acoustic space, I wish I could share this experience with you. Just breathtaking and absolutely natural.
*
Bass
The downfall of so many great orthos - do you leave them slightly underdamped so that the bass throbs with a little less control than would be ideal or do you tighten it up so that the bass is several dB down but very tight and accurate. The LCD2 has no problem here - it just keeps going down. The acoustic bass of YoYoMa's cello on the Appalachian Waltz reverberates with multilayered bass that it transfixed me for the moment. I initially thought I heard some low bass warble but it turned out after much listening and reflection that I was hearing bass notes in the music which had never featured in my experience
of the music before. This was only on one particular electronica piece of music which I don't listen to ferquently but does extend the bass notes pretty low. Bach's Toccata's and Fugues sound vivid, Ulanji's bass drum virtuoso is thunderous and never did I feel the bass was congested or lacked definition. Thaebass is tight, punchy, fast and layered with all the texture of the mids.

BearClassic 12-31-2012 01:46 AM

Thanks! :-)
I might invest :-P
Bear.

I went against your request and bought Sony MDR-V6 stereo headphones for $70. These are my first headphones and to my ****** ears they sound and feel great for the price. They cancel noise pretty good but during breaks or soft spots in the musc I can still hear my bird's loud singing and squawking, which is very loud and high pitched..these will help with that in the mornings though lol.

I would by them for the box.......
Its bloody amazing.

Talon 01-06-2013 02:58 AM

Those are pretty nice headphones, iconic as well. I haven't tried the sound firsthand though, how is it?

twilit 01-06-2013 03:14 AM

This week i bought a new pair of earbuds on Amazon.
SMS "Street" by 50Cent (no i dont listen to rap).
They have flat-wire tangle-free cords which i like because regular ones are annoying to untie when theyre in your pocket. The silicon earpieces cancel background noice and the sound quality is 10x better than the generic Apple ones.
They cost $120, but i found them on Amazon for $65 ;D (i wouldve bought Beats but of course you dont find good deals on the popular brands)

I don't really know the technicalities to describing the sound other than saying it sounds "good" to me. I wish the bass was a little heavier though but I read these headphones don't mess with the original sound at all so it could just be the files I'm listening to.

If you have any CDs, try ripping them to iTunes with Apple Lossless encoding. Will give you the best possible bitrate, but it may not be noticeable as different from 320kbps

I never buy CDs. I usually listen to dj studio sets on soundcloud and download my favorite songs.

Heya,

Just dropping by to let you all know that I bought Astro A40s.

Come at me.
(Joking, did a trade with a friend from Head-Fi to lend each other a pair of headphones. My M50 for his A40... We wait.)

They're surprisingly alright. Clarity isn't neck-and-neck with my HD25 or M50 but the depth and soundstaging is leaps and bounds above them both. Kinda mid-bass centric making it appealing for bands like fun. and electronic music.

Pazx 01-17-2013 08:32 AM

yeah but why would anybody want to listen to bands like fun. ever?

My M-Audio Q40's came in today and have been using for the past few hours and they're excellent, nice to hear the lows and other details that were absent in the headphones I was using previously. Extremely satisfied with them, thanks for the recommendation.

Hesh 2.0 is good, I wouldn't doubt it for a second (okay maybe I would). Skullcandy hired a new sound/acoustics engineering team and their quality has gone way up.

No problem, glad you like them.

Although my SkullCandy headphones are quite good, I'll need a recommendation for when something happens to them. Let's begin.

Budget: anything $0-100
Music Preference: Soft rock (e.g Coldplay)
Form Factor (Type): over ear
Open-backed or close-backed (not for IEMs): Whatever floats your boat (what do you recommend?)
Source (MP3 player/desktop/etc): Android Phone and Laptop Computer
What's above everything else? - Sound quality / Looks or Design / Build quality / Portability: I'd like some portability and high bass. That's it ^^

Cassette - Black/Black w/Mic - These look nice, I like headphones with this shape, similar to beats

The Doctor 01-19-2013 02:30 PM

Talon - do you know any headphones with the specs I've described plus a microphone?

MSM 01-19-2013 02:56 PM

Do you think these are good for the price? Look at the Features and Specs as well. http://www.skullcandy.com/shop/cassette-black-black

Please tell me which you think is better, I will buy it today from a store.

MSM 01-19-2013 08:53 PM

I went to go buy them, and the cassette ones are REALLY small. Instead I bought the uprocks, and they are excellent. Cancels out sound and sounds excellent!

Don't know of any over-ears sub-$100 with a mic but there are some good in-ears with inline mics. If you're going to use it with a PC you can just buy an external clip-on mic.

I have a crappy USB mic, so if you recommend any microphones, I'd be glad to buy some on amazon.

Budget: 0-45 dollars

I'm looking for something that can pick up sound tremendously good and cancel background noise good.

HAHAhahahHAHAHahahah

Sennheiser/AKG/Audio Technica/Beyerdynamic/Ultrasone/Grado

All of these brands blow Skullcandy/Beats out of the water, effortlessly. No debate. Honestly the only people that buy those two brands are because they're colorful/look nice or their friends have some. Don't lie. Skullcandy's starting to get better but they're still suboptimal by a good margin for the price you pay.

I bought this thing for $35. I forgot what it is called at the moment, but it picks up sound nearby great, and cancels out noise farther away. Plus, it's an HD clip-on camera too.

I think its called "Microsoft HD LifeCam" or "Microsoft Cinema Lifecam"

For its price it's pretty good. There's a decent amount of bass (more than the v1 thanks to larger drivers) and the sound insulation is better. The only part where it kind of falls short is comfort - the v1 was more comfortable. v2's sit a bit tighter around the ear (keeps sound out, I suppose) but overall it's pretty good.

I wouldn't say audiophile level (I wouldn't know, haven't given "real" headphones a chance), but do stay clear of the USB version - it's horrible.

MSM 01-23-2013 02:55 AM

MSM 01-23-2013 12:17 PM

Maybe, but the only reason I got them so cheap was because I bought them from my brother's best friend, plus they are white and a tiny bit dirty, and the carrying case is missing.

But they are in good shape, barely used, and less than a year old
