^ If you don't pick up the gralat, but keep hitting it with bombs and swords, the value will go up. You can check the value of the gralat by clicking on it. It may take several hits before it goes up in value though

Isn't that just new gralats spawning on top from the grass I'm chopping, or does it actually help get gralats faster?

It's the same as farming normally. They don't go up any faster than collecting the gralats right away. People like to show off how many gralats they have in their farms though, and locking your gralats in your house allows other people to farm for you without getting stolen

You have to keep doing it and the blue will eventually turn red, which later will turn to gold etc.

There is a way. Farm in swamptown, not your house. More gralats spawn when more people are around. Use your horse and fire breath. Make sure your AP is above 40, and if you're down to 1 or less heart, either run to a house and grab some heart vases or put heart vases in your house (and enter your house), in order to save your bombs.

Farming, by yourself, in your house/GH is one of the slowest way to earn gralats. People like to do it because the gralats stack and they like seeing the numbers get bigger and bigger.

You can do better than 3k a day if you farm in swamptown. There was a time when gralat spawn rate was exponentially higher too, and there was a HUGE area of grass in the center of Balamb. PK was turned off but people could still use bombs (as is still the case, I believe) so everyone in the know did their farming there and you could rake in crazy amount of gralats if you knew what you were doing (assuming no thieves and ideal conditions, 7-10k an hour. I kid you not).
