The franchise I work for is ran by a bunch of assholes. Very strict on what happens with food waste. Not allowed to be donated. We can't even throw it away at night because they think someone will go dumpster diving for them. We have to toss them in the dumpster the next day. Of course I don't give a **** about their rules and I eat them, but it's a shame we can't donate it.

I found out my new job donates all the good they don't use. Also found out my new job isn't run by assholes.

It's such a waste though.. There are some places that let you keep the food and take it home, that should have happened with these poor donuts :P

nope. better not do that unless you want beggers there every night.

they prob threw them out bc of food inspection.

Nope. They were day old donuts. We throw out a ton every day.

We throw out bagels every 10 hours, breads every 2 days after defrosting, and donuts every 20 hours. All of it goes straight to the dumpster. It's such bull****. There's no excuse as to why the food can't be donated.

Management at your location doesn't wanna go through the small hastle of setting up the donations. Laziness at its finest.

Location is plural. Hundreds upon hundreds of pastries are thrown out daily. I think the franchise owns 12 stores. So ****ing glad I quit. I love my new job.

I'd probably get fired by the owner if he found out I was posting this stuff. The district manager was too chicken**** to go through with his word and fire me for taking a vacation though.

In reality the pastries don't cost that much to make so there isn't much harm besides the food gone to waste.

Only one I can remember the price of is the fudge brownie donut which costs 25 cents. I assume the other ones cost around 20 cents. If we throw away 100 donuts (which is an extreme underestimation) that's $20 dollars a day just in donuts. $140 dollars a week. That **** adds up.

Yeah no surprise there. Worst part is it being a franchise, so corporate cant do ****.

A lot of franchises don't really allow for donations for various reasons such as them not wanting to be held liable if someone were to get sick from eating the food as well as the extra costs of having to give it to a shelter for the homeless. I'm not sure about this specific case and whether or not the franchise is allowed to donate, if they are however it's definitely laziness at its finest :P

Unfortunately, it happens with a lot of fast food places as well. A place I use to work at for example threw out all of the bread daily. It was pretty common for the bin to just be full of bread the next day. I really don't understand why there's so many rules in place preventing all that food which is still edible to be donated or given to people who can't afford food - it would be cool if there was some sort of system or incentive to donate the leftovers to benefit those in need of food.

Good to hear the new job is good! :D
You wouldn't be the first person to see how bad a workplace is and complain about it, I doubt you'll be the last :P

There are laws in place to protect donators from being liable for any food poisoning. There are pickup services for food donations that are free.

So it is them just being lazy.. D:

Edit: I did a bit of research too and found out Australia has a similar piece of legislation so in general it comes down to places not being bothered.. -_-
