If you'd replace Unixmad with someone that can script, the issue may be solved. Never pointed out his money-making ways

Well you posted that as a direct attempt to shame Unixmad while he is actually still gaining without having to put effort into the issue at hand

I wouldn't say without putting effort, even if it might be a small amount. Other than that, you're right

Ethacon 12-01-2016 02:54 PM

No, Obviously guys we need a server downgrade idk why we just should ;)

Dos 12-01-2016 02:56 PM

Does Graal use a virtualized server from a company like Amazon? I've been meaning to ask for a while.

Tidus 12-01-2016 03:05 PM

Server lag doesn't bother me as much as the fact that any player outside North America has some type of connection issue. But this is coming from a guy who's bitching about something I really don't fully understand

But free my boy relic tho ayy lmao

'Top of the line'
Lol come on fp4 we all know thats a lie.
I bet unix runs the server off his laptop with 256mb of ddr2 ram.

Probably just using the $5 droplet on Digital Ocean.

I agree with Tidus completely. I can probably bich a little more about laggers if I wanted to also but its not really worth it.

If Kodak can be freed then so can Relic

So is 4-5k players the pinnacle of server size utilizing the current engine?

Are there plans to make it accessible by more players?

It's been said the server is capable of handling much more. Graal City AFKers are the biggest cause IIRC. AFAIK there is no plans to upgrade because iClassic doesn't make enough money. Look at iEra (I assume), they make a ton of money and there isn't much lag. It's a business thing, no point in spending more if the profits don't call for it.

Would you upgrade something if the profits from said thing have hardly changed?

Free Relic

Laughing irl about all the people saying 'free relic' like he was unjustly dealt with.

Optimization of resources is the toughest thing for any game... it takes time and effort on the part of developers, and the customers will see little to no difference and still be complaining. You can have all the cool hardware you want and one loopy bug in the script can still cause it to crumble.

Sure it takes time and effort but all we're talking about is buying a better quality server. This server can't handle the amount of players atm. We need like a better server so that this game can run well.

Easy Solution: just make some areas pk zone again (like from daycare to sky church area) and add lil safe spots on the buildings (and yes Im repeating so idfc), so that theres less afk people wasting the server space >.>

Honestly the game is increasing alot of safezoned areas lately that its pretty much pointless to pk anymore, except pk at towers, swamp, pond, small area at onnet, and by red barn. And ffs Im sick on pking Guild B and SoN 24/7 cuz they bored me to death running around in endless circles.

Thallen 12-03-2016 06:23 AM

The server lag is probably a combination of several things that don't have to do with the hardware.

Ruxxter explained to me a while ago that the way Graal was coded is really inefficient in terms of handling multiple players in one level. I can't recall the exact explanation, but if there are 63 players in a level and and another player enters, making it 64, the data being transferred becomes exponentially larger. fp4 probably understands how that works, if it's true.

There's that, then the fact that AFK disconnection has been broken for a really long time now. Players that are inactive and AFK should be booted off the game entirely so that they aren't taking up any server resources. iClassic staff rigged a way to warp them all to an idle level, but I'm sure it isn't as efficient. Getting that to work all probably requires access to the game that only Stefan had.

Have to consider that Graal was coded as a game that never saw more than ~300 people on a single server in the PC days. I have to imagine the port to the iOS platform didn't include a rewrite of the game engine or anything like that, so 4000+ is definitely not what the game was built for. Why unixmad has not removed his head from his ass and done something about it yet is a mystery though.

Zetectic 12-03-2016 06:49 AM

So you are saying that it's not the server's problem, but actually the G-Code itself?
... Need like 100 expert coders to do that.
