It does actually. Copying gameplay and stealing graphics are two entirely different things. There are lots of FPS games out there that play nearly exactly the same way, but if they were to start stealing/ripping graphics from other games then that's a big deal.

Dusty... As long as we're having fun and making friends. Just don't get Graal killed

I agree with what you said but if it was between 2 successful games, I think graal is to insignificant in the gaming community to really matter. But to my previous comment, I was asking what was the point of this thread since graal looks so similar to the pic below.

yes I heard that before. the thing is that I don’t think they were going to sue because the game looked like zelda I think they were going to sue because they were using the name itself.

for all I know all that suing stuff could just be a rumor.idk I’ve only been playing graal since 2010.

Graal was called Zelda Online... because it was actually Zelda 3 with multiplayer support. Stefan took the graphics of Zelda 3, recoded the game from scratch and added online capabilities. Fan games are not really a rare thing, and Zelda is one of those games that tend to get a lot of fan games. Back then it was free, Stefan didn't get money for Zelda Online so was he in the wrong? Nah. Whether or not he got a C&D order from Nintendo is unknown. Some say he did, he says he never did. He may have just wanted to make his project more serious, and a fan game can only get so far before you DO have legal issues. Eventually he revamped and made his own graphics and changed the name to Graal. Most of the overworld tiles ended up looking fairly unique and different, some tiles suffered from looking like cheap upscales(castle tiles mainly).

Whether or not he actually got threatened by Nintendo we'll never know. Even if he did, it was not some personal type of thing. Nintendo generates a C&D e-mail and sends it out, threatening to take legal action. It's all pretty much daily paperwork to Nintendo, and typically it never escalates beyond that e-mail.

I agree with Crono.. :P

Many of Graal's graphics were heavily influenced by other games or bits of media. The game wasn't meant to be a large game at all at first. It was a personal project for a few friends, and it became a popular public game. While nothing can be done to change the classic element of Graal, it does heavily resemble other games (namely the Zelda series). If I'm correct, this has already been established and dealt with. I personally see no reason to bring up any idea that a graphic file is stolen unless it was actually ripped from its original game and plugged into Graal for any reason, and was not already pointed out.

I already regret posting this in fear of an argument, and I haven't even posted it yet.. This is not a good sign x.X

Kind of interesting to hear this perspective. I've always heard he was sued and have always believed that. :p
