in fact if they had just produced the plant and modified the leaf structure and kept it a secret about what plant it was modified from, patented the genetic code, and then changed its name to something not related to the cannabis plants, then that genetically modified species would be legal and could be used to produce cheap rope, twine, textiles, paper, tissues, pulp, fibers, artificial wood, and more.
