LOL That router is the face of routers.

I have a spare WRT54G laying around. :P

My favorite router ever.

fp4 10-14-2011 06:24 AM

I wish they made an N version of it. It's a WRT54GL flashed with CoovaAP for a hotspot product (thanks to Heroku and my Sinatra AAA server it'll cost nothing for us to host it) that I've been tasked with.

I just hate how it messes up the layout. Even if it did have an autoresizer, it doesn't actually resize the images. It just zooms them out when they're finished loading. They'd still be large files. Not saying I don't want an autoresizer, but the attachment is there and does all that for you, and makes small thumbnails so we can pick if we want to zoom in(while retaining your large files).

There are different ones that don't do it after it's loaded. I think there's actually a way to do it without any packages/modifications, in the vbulletin settings. I see it on every other vbulletin forum I frequent, though I don't know how they do it. None of them resize it after loading. Anyway, I'll use attachments for those pictures I posted before.

I used to put ice packs under my laptop while I used it because I was too lazy to clean the fans...

-facepalm- And your laptop never died? Impressive...

But since this is a thread about computers, can anyone help me? I got a custom built PC in my computer room. Vista 7, about 28 out of 30 GBs used (not too sure about that and the specs), and a monitor. I've been leaving it be for about a year, occasionaly turning it on because i prefer my laptop. So anyway, it's been having problems. Numerous problems. The computer starts, then 30 seconds later it shuts down. When it does boot up, the monitor won't read it. Sometimes, it refuses to turn on. And it takes like 30 minutes just to shut down. I'll probably get a video out if I find my camera. But yeah, any help with this? Sorry it's so vague with the specs and the stuff, i can't remember them.

My desktop is pretty beefy. It's quite old too

i7 950 overclocked to 3.6GHz
12GB DDR3 Ram tripple channel (i think it's at about 1800MHz+)
Radeon HD6970 graphics
Intel 160GB SSD Gen2

i7 980.

i7 2600k can't support triple channel memory

I would have preferred the new line of processors with the updated instruction set over the slight boost from triple-channel. I have triple channel memory but I would have gone the i7 2600k if it was out at the time.

This could be anything, the problem is very vague. Could just be a faulty video card. If you have it plugged into a dedicated video card try removing that card and using the onboard video(lots of Motherboards have one), or swap out another video card to see if that's the problem.

LavaClaw 10-15-2011 06:55 AM

My laptop beats all of yours, even Twinnys powerful desktop.
Intel Dual Core T2310 @ 1.46GHz
1916MB DDR2 RAM
SiS Mirage 3 Graphics
120GB Storage
just to top it off, the fans have failed twice so now to stop them failing, its in a broken plastic box (dont ask me how but the fans haven't failed since i put it in here).

Hmmm, could be, seeing as the computer can't read the monitor. Before it broke, Minecraft couldn't be played on it. And if it is, s**t. My dad won't let me buy a new video card :/ i just hope it's something not to costly to fix.

Check the warranty status on the graphics card and if it's eligible they should replace it. All you'll have to do is ship it there which may or may not be at your expense.

Another possibility is that it's the power supply. Check warranty on it as well.

Depending on the age of the computer it might be possible that some of the capacitors on the motherboard blew or are leaking.

Try booting your computer into safe mode with networking and see if you have the same issues. If it works fine in safe mode it might be a driver issue, in that case get the latest drivers for your video card.

I have no idea about the warranty, probably doesn't have it since I've had this for 2 years. And I can't boot it into safe mode because I can't see the screen. I've gotta go in this case sometime. It might be the dust clogging something up because my brother broke open the door to it and we couldn't find the screws so I just left it open.

fp4 10-15-2011 08:18 AM

Dust just insulates the computer and makes it hotter which causes the fans to run at higher speeds (which makes them louder as well). Unless the dust build-up is absolutely insane I doubt it's the actual problem.

Check the warranty on the actual part and not the computer. It's not unheard of for parts to have 3 or more years of warranty on them.
