I coded the original non-apple device ban. It's likely a recent update (either official of unofficial) rendered the check ineffective...always fun :)

New ban system:
Player is muted for using chat, guild chat, pms, etc. Player is restricted from using house, gh, etc. Player cannot receive invites. Player cannot use emotes, bombs, arrows, etc. (only grab). Player cannot spar (no duh no sword) Player cannot leave graal city, (or maybe police station). Player is allowed to move, and use the feedback button and only READ pms. Tell me if I missed eny thing?

I'd rather just not play the game.

It's pretty much the same as the jail system except the counter keeps going when your offline like the current ban. (Jail was removed since some people couldn't Afk and a 30min jail for them would take days.)

Removing the feedback button from the ban screen was also lots of work but they did it and started taking email appeals. Phew so much more work!

i kinda wished that the jails actually had npcs of currently banned players. or at least players that have been banned over and over, like captainhax

Not really relevant, but I was banned once for using a non-apple device when I installed the iOS 4 (first) beta as soon as it was released. Appealed and the ban was repealed a few hours later. :P Interestingly enough the ban was for only 24 hours. Times sure do change.
