Thanks everyone for voting, but due to some errors I did with this thread I wasn't able to get accurate results for what I was looking for. Errors: Project A was the original piece Project B was an edited version done by a different person (problem was that it was a rushed job that was not polished-which he mentions, but I didn't catch it) Even with a rushed Project B I could have adjusted by adding a 4th option to the poll to dislike both projects(having no choice but to pick from possibly 2 bad pieces doesn't give me an accurate answer to what I was looking for)
I just wanted to see if regular players would like a pillow shaded piece. Artists already have it in their head that pillow shading is bad, so anything they see with pillow shading is automatically ugly and that's why I asked them not to critic it (didn't want them to influence the voting) Link to the thread where I got the pictures: http://wayofthepixel.net/index.php?topic=15999.0 I like things from both works, so don't think it was a shading vs shading thing. |

I don't think A was entirely pillow shaded. The light source seems to be coming from the front, top, right. There's a clear angle from all the scales on the dragon, the helmet on the warrior guy, the shadows on the dragon and cliffs, etc. I tried my best to point most of that out in here. The pillow shading on the cliff looks bad but the trees and grass work well, not trying to get too into critiquing this because I know that wasn't the point. It's a really pretty piece of work, nice colors, good contrast, cute characters, pleasing to the eye. Don't know why people wouldn't like it. Yeah, if you do this again try asking someone to make something in two ways and finish it both ways. I think that may have swayed the results quite a bit because the second one clearly wasn't finished as many have pointed out. |
