I don't live in America, but if I were I'd probably be sided with the democrats. Mind you though, having to pick between from Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump is a pretty tough choice imo.

It outlines the basics principles/beliefs for both the Democrats (left wing) and the Republicans (right wing). Might also come in handy for you Slyde |

I've come to see that both sides are capable of both good and bad things. It's not the case of who's right or wrong, it's simply that party/person's priorities and beliefs. Just because I'm left leaning doesn't mean there are things that right-wing parties want to achieve that I also think should be done. What frustrates me is when a party goes on with a promise and highlights that as a reason to vote for them but once elected don't deliver. Another thing that is quite annoying is how a lot of people these days get caught up in an 'us against them' mentality and the 2016 USA election definitely highlighted that. I do give props to people who vote and give their reasoning related to the policies of their perferred party/candidate. When you said there's a lot of right-wing people on this forum, I'm going to go with the assumption that you're talking about this thread and what seems to be a lot of support for Donald Trump? (I don't think a single person has said Hillary yet xD) I noticed someone also said they consider themselves apart of the democrats but supported Trump. I found the 2016 USA election quite interesting and it was the first big election I looked into. I think there's a lot of reasons why people supported Trump over Hillary. Things such as; the fact there was little trust for Hillary (The whole email controversy and various leaks revealling how she was set out to win the primaries from the start) as well as Trump's message promising America to be great again having a stronger response compared to Hillary's Strong together. His business background made him seem like the perfect guy for the job in terms of the economical issues present with America. What I find interesting is the fact that people who considered themselves democrats voted for the opposing party's candidate. On top of that, a lot of people were disengaged with the current political climate and didn't vote at all. Politics is pretty important and relates to both the young and old, so I wonder whether this trend will continue or if politicians will be able to appeal to more people over the upcoming years. Trump is also interesting in terms of the fact that he made quite a few promises but seems to have become more passive on his promises once winning. This was the guy who made the promise to send Clinton to jail but has now decided to backdown on that idea saying it would be bad for America. I wonder whether or not he'll go ahead with his promises such as building the wall or whether he'll replace it with something not so drastic. I guess we'll find out over the next few months |
