My New PC
Hey, it was only by chance that I saw this little section and thought I'd might as well get feedback on the PC I'm hopefully going to be getting soon. I have a budget of $2000 and want to upgrade my PC pretty bad. I've had my current one for about 3 years now and I'm pretty sure it's coming to an end of it's life. I want to be able to get a new PC not just for gaming/web browsing but also Photoshop/video editing. PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: Intel Core i7-7700 3.6GHz Quad-Core Processor ($448.00 @ Shopping Express) CPU Cooler: Corsair H60 54.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($79.00 @ Centre Com) Motherboard: ASRock Z170 Extreme4 ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($209.00 @ Scorptec) Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2133 Memory ($119.00 @ Scorptec) Storage: Samsung 850 EVO 500GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive ($214.00 @ Shopping Express) Storage: Western Digital Blue 2TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive ($95.00 @ IJK) Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1060 6GB 6GB G1 Gaming Video Card ($399.00 @ PCCaseGear) Case: Phanteks Enthoo Pro M Tempered Glass ATX Mid Tower Case ($149.00 @ PCCaseGear) Power Supply: Silverstone Strider Gold S 750W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($139.00 @ PCCaseGear) Total: $1851.00 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2017-01-12 15:32 AEDT+1100 I'm still using the same keyboard, mouse, monitors (It's going to be fun with the new cables ) and I've already got a copy of Windows 10 OS. * Sidenote: I'm most likely going to be buying this all in store, so the prices are probably going to vary - I don't care if I go a little over with recommendations. Also, if the prices seem a bit over the top, welcome to the Australian market xd xd |

Your CPU is way overkill and your GPU will be a bottleneck. If you are spending around $2000 you shouldn't have a graphics card that's found in builds <$1000. I'd suggest getting an i5 6600k and switching the GTX 1060 with the GTX 1070 or even the 1080 if you are willling to spend a bit more. Your CPU is around $200 more than it should be and will barely even have a 1 fps difference from the skylake processors. I'd either go with an i5 6600k or an i7 6700k. |

As for the GTX 1060, that's already $400~ here in Australia (as I said, the chart above is just an estimate on price so it may even be higher), buying a GTX 1070 already adds $200 if not more than that and I don't want to push excesively past $2000, so I'm probably just going to stick with the GTX 1060 |

Anyways, the 6700k is relatively way more powerful than the GTX 1060. I'd suggest toning your processor down to a 6600k and maybe getting the 1070 since it should be around a ~$100 price difference. Also the GTX 1060 is not the best card for your buck. You can get better performance than a 1060 with an RX 480 for an extremely similar price. AMD has a better track record of keeping their drivers updated and fresh for all of their generations of GPUs. The 1060 is already less powerful than the RX 480 and even has less VRAM. |

Referring to the RX480, I'll have to look into it. Unfortunately I'm one of those people that have fallen into the 'GTX over AMD' group, mainly because most of my friends have given me the AMD horror stories of them graphics cards not lasting as long, having issues with them in general, etc. I'll take a look at it though! |
